The day had finally come. Varian's 8th Birthday. Some people dreaded the day! All of the excitement over the town menace. New stuff bought for him just so he could use it to blow up another part of the town. But people still came to his party to celebrate, mainly because Quirin was the town leader and so they had no say in the matter. Varian woke up and jumped out of bed. It was 6am and the sun had only just rose.

"Y/N! It's my birthday! Where's my birthday cuddles!?" He yelled at the top of his lungs. Varian leapt over to Y/N bed. But the bed was empty.

"Y/N? Where are you? The birthday games don't start till later, hide and seek has to wait!" He searched around the room, before creeping down the stairs. Y/N was hiding behind the kitchen door, in her hand a small pink chemball she had been working on for the past week.

"Y/N! Come out!" Varian shouted. He suddenly turned around to where Y/N was standing and smiled.

"Gotcha!" He exclaimed.

"I'm really sorry about this, Varry, and I'll be back soon, I promise!" Y/N cried.

"Huh?" Just then, Y/N threw her chemball at Varian's feet. A strange, sticky substance stuck Varian to the ground.

"I'm both really miffed and very impressed!" He said. Varian tried to move his feet, but they didn't budge. Y/N gave a cute little goodbye and ran out the door.

"Sand! I need sand!" Y/N yelled. The other villagers were just waking up, and weren't to pleased to hear the sound of
Y/N screaming to accompany them. She searched and searched for even a small amount of sand, but it was like someone had come along with a massive hoover and gotten rid of it all! Y/N grunted in frustration, throwing her fists on the floor. Sparks fly, embers leap and tears fall.

"I've ruined Varian's birthday and all for nothing! I'm such a failure!" She cried. Just then something shiny caught her eye. She turned to see a massive beach stretching as far as the eye could see.

"Holy Chickens shooting lasers at mars! A beach! How did I not notice this!" She ran over to the glorious plain of sand, and scooped the sand up into her bucket up to the brim. Satisfied, Y/N walked to Varian's lab, hearing his shouts. Quirin was away, visiting the king and probably getting a present for Varian, so he could not be heard. Y/N felt guilt rushed through her, but she told herself. It's for Varian!

Finally, she arrived at Varian's lab. She had already laid out all the chemicals needed and just needed to do the process.

(I'm really sorry, I'm literally a middle school nerd who feels the need to show off her hidden knowledge of chemistry and kind of alchemy, so just deal with it!)

She poured the sodium carbonate and carbon oxide onto the sand that she had poured into the beaker. Then she added some lanthanum oxide to make the glass suitable for eye lenses.

"Okay, so I've done the easy part. Now for the hard part". Y/N would have to make her fire go far beyond any heat she had before. 1500°C. Y/N reluctantly walked over to where Varian was. He had a pouty face that stared into Y/N's soul.

"Hello Y/N. How's your day? Because my one sucks!" He yelled. His hands were crossed in a furious mood.

"Tell me you hate me".

"What?"

"Say to me that you hate me"

"Y/N, it's okay, I could never hate you..."

"Say it!"

"I hate you?"

"Varian! Say it like you mean it! I need you to say it!" Y/N yelled. Once again she was crying. "Jeez I'm pathetic", she said to herself.

"Y/N! Stop it! I don't hate you! I'll never hate you! You're my best friend and roommate! My FSOB! Forever sleep over buddy!" Using all his force, Varian squeezes and forced and pulled until he finally broke free of his sticky prison. He ran to Y/N and she rested her head on the crook of his neck.

"Do it." She whispered.

"Why?"

"I need to hear it. Infuriate me! Break my heart! Make me blazing!"

"Every word of what I'm about to say is all a lie! Understand?" Y/N nodded.

"Okay... You wasted a whole year of my life! You only help me to help yourself you selfish antagonistic psycho. Nobody wants you! I never wanted you to waltz your way into my life and make it worse! You're hideous and you have never done anything for me!" Varian heaved a sad sigh.

All the time he had been talking Y/N was burning up. Literally. Her hands were like flaming balls straight from an active volcano. She ran to Varian's lab, crying. Placing her hands beneath the sand, she allowed Varian's words to echo through her mind. Each one like a stab in the heart. Her hands were bursting, flaming, uncontrollably hot. There was no turning back now. Finally, she saw the sand melt into molten liquid sand, and she poured it into the moulds she had made and left them to cool down.

Y/N knew Varian was going to be really upset. He was very emotional, and it was adorable. She saw Varian sitting on the dining room table, with his hands on his eyes, sobbing.

"Who want birthday cuddles!?" She yelled. Varian leapt of the table and ran into her arms, hugging and squeezing you to death.

"I'm so sorry Y/N! I'm so, so sorry! I didn't mean any of what I said! I only said that because you told me to! Umm... why did you ask me to?" Varian asked. He did that adorable thing where he turns his head when he's confused. Y/N smiled sweetly at him, and brought her hands forward, revealing a pair of goggles. Science goggles.

"Happy birthday, Varry!" Y/N beamed. Varian's mouth was agape. He smiled brighter than he had for a long time.

"Thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you!" Varian used all of his strength to lift you into the air.

"Woah! The nerd has muscles!" Y/N said, smirking. Varian laughed and pretended to flex his muscles. They both burst out laughing. Just at that moment, Quirin and a bunch of other villagers came piling through the door.

"Happy birthday!" They all yelled. Varian leapt into his dad's arms. The party lasted for the whole day. Once night time finally arose, Varian and Y/N went up to bed giggling. They talked and laughed all night. Varian grew sleepy and lay back onto his bed. He was in his little blue pyjamas that had strange splotches of paint and other strange substances scattered around. Quirin thought that was the pattern, thankfully. But Y/N noticed something very odd.

"Varian?"

"Yes?"

"You're still wearing the goggles I made".

"So I am! They're so comfy!" Varian snuggled into his bed. Y/N laughed lightly, and she too cuddled up against the sheets. They were soon fast asleep.
