16 months had passed since the encounter with the guards, and Varian's 8th birthday was tomorrow! Y/N's birthday was said to be the day she woke up, as she couldn't remember her actual birthday.

She also couldn't remember what a birthday or birthday party was like. Last year, she hadn't gotten a gift as Quirin had to go to Corona the same day, and Varian wanted to come too. Y/N wasn't allowed in Corona, otherwise she could get caught by the royal guards. She also didn't know what to do for one. Quirin explained that the village usually came round bringing little gifts like socks and toys and other small presents like that.

Although that sounded kinda cute to Y/N, she wanted to get Varian something special, but she wasn't quite sure what. Varian called her over to do some more experiments with her, as she was just as good at alchemy as he was. At the moment, they were trying to make a fluorescent, non acidic and safe liquid chemical that could be poured into glass balls and used instead of candles.

"It'll never go out, there's no fire hazards, and if it spills then we'll just make more" Varian said excitedly.

"Well, there'll still be fire hazards, just not from the lights", Y/N said, kicking her foot against her heel.

Varian walked over to her and held her hands.

"Y/N, you're not a hazard in anyway! I know you can learn to control that, fiery impulse and power, and then think of what we could to do! Dad could never take that kind of blowtorch away from me!" He said laughing at the thought.

Y/N smiled at him, warmly.

Over the past year Varian and Y/N had become the best of friends. Nothing could separate them. Varian loved having someone like her in his life, all the time. Quirin though they viewed each other as brother and sister.

But Varian didn't want Y/N to be his sister. That means that his love for her would be only sibling love. Not romantic love.

He didn't want that. And he hated himself for it. They were both only 7 (though not for long for Varian). And it was very weird to already be in love when you were 7. Especially in the way Varian loved her. He wanted to be her boyfriend.

Y/N didn't know what she wanted. She was still recovering, and only really just getting a grip of reality. Her life was Varian, nothing else. So, in a way, she felt the same. Because she really loved her life.

Varian then clicked his fingers and shouted "I know how to do it!" He leapt in the air and ran back over to his desk, grabbing different chemicals.

(Ready for another chemistry rant. I know, I like to show off, I can't do that at school so this is all I've got).

"Alright Varian, explain", Y/N said, exactly the same way that Varian had said to her when she cut down that tree.

Varian got all the chemicals he needed. He opened the windows, making it well ventilated. He cleared all the other stuff out of the way, as Y/N had tried to teach him to be neater to save accidents. He then turned to look at Y/N and smiled sadly, giving her a 'I'm sorry' look.

Y/N knew what he meant. He was using flammable substances. She sighed but thanked him. Although she hated it, he was right. He was just trying to protect her.

"Okay, so, I have some distilled water her. I'll pour an exact one litre of it on this container here, see?"

Y/N nodded, curious to see what he was doing.

"Now, I add 4grams of sodium carbonate with 0.2 grams or luminol, 0.5 grams or ammonium carbonate and 0.4 grams of copper sulphate pentahydrate". He said, proudly.
