Amarisse

My breath caught in my throat. I didn't understand.

"Y-you're a fae?" I choked out, feeling the tears spill over my cheeks. I looked at him for some sort of explanation, the violet aura exploded from around him. I felt a sob rake through my body. It was truly beautiful and I would be in awe if my heart hadn't dropped down to my feet.

His eyes never left the necklace in my hand, his mouth was parted, and his eyebrows scrunched together. He quickly took the necklace out of my hand and turned around, without a word. He walked away quickly, headed towards the woods.

"Drake," Shea shouted after him, obviously not seeing what had just happened. "Where the hell is he going?" I could tell she was slightly drunk, her face was flushed and she was giggling with Naomi.

I felt my blood boil, considering she was obviously a fae as well. Drake lied to me, which hurt and I was humiliated. She had probably been laughing as Drake told her about me. I felt my blood pressure rising.

"Um, Amarisse?" Naomi cautiously trying to bring me back to reality. Shea's mouth was slightly parted and I watched as she gulped, but she was looking directly past me. Naomi looking the same way, looking right past me, she met my eyes and pointed behind me.

In my anger and humiliation I had let my emotions take control of my gifts, and there was a large form made of water coming out of the lake. Although I knew that Shea had to be one of us too, I immediately slammed the form back down into the water causing it to soak Shea and Naomi. I turned on my heels and took off up the trail, without a word I heard footsteps behind me.

"What the hell? Why did you do that?" She spat harshly. I looked at her in confusion, she never spoke to me that way.

"It's not like they haven't seen it before," I scoff, then coming to the realization that she hadn't been paying attention. "Naomi, they're fae. . ." I trailed off, feeling ashamed of being played that way.

"That's not possible." She whispered, stopping her quick step.

"I thought so too, but those matching necklaces must be some sort of magical totem that disguises their auras, somehow." I sighed, thinking through the night. "His aura was purple Naomi. . .they're Spirit Fae." She gasped quietly. I started walking up the trail again. My steps were heavy, I was trying to walk some of my anger away.

I was so embarrassed I wanted to crawl into my bed and never, ever come out. How could I have been so stupid? There's no doubt that he knew exactly who I was. The dress that I wore to the ball clearly shows my Royalty mark, and he would certainly know what it meant.

He was playing my emotions the entire time. My heart hurts, and I feel seriously sick.

"Mari?" Naomi stopped me, in that moment I doubled over and threw up everything in my stomach. "Oh my, Mari, are you okay?" She tried not to shriek, holding my hair and rubbing my back.
