Drake

I ran a hand through my hair, now a lot shorter than it used to be, and smiled. It still stretched down to about my eyes in the front, but it was a much classier look. My eyes weren't as easily hidden as they were before, but I no longer cared. If it was truly a problem, I was sure there was some sort of excuse I could make. I slipped on the uniform for the help for the coronation, which consisted of a grey button down with black dress pants and a deep blue tie. I tied the black half apron onto my waist and slipped on a purely white half-mask.

My body was tense with nerves, the night ahead making me on edge. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew that it needed to go smoothly. No one was allowed to get hurt and I had my own personal job on the side of the big one that no one knew about. There was someone I wanted to have a conversation with. After my argument with Amarisse, I realized a couple things.

The first thing I realized was feeling sorry for myself wouldn't get me anywhere. Not with Amarisse and not with the Spirit Fae. Our ostracization didn't need to be an issue as long as someone finally did something, and not the sneaky ways the Void had been going about it so far. We needed to attack straight on and get results but more importantly, we needed allies. Amarisse showed me that there were Fae out there a lot more accepting than the council, which weighed heavily in our favor. I just needed to talk to the right people.

The second thing it made me realize was just how silly this whole thing with Amarisse really was. I'm not referring to my feelings for her, no, I am referring to the things keeping us apart. We didn't have to be apart if we didn't want to be and I know I really wanted to be with her. All I wanted to do during our argument was run up and kiss her and wipe the tears away that I had caused. I just had to hope that I didn't miss my shot already.

I stepped out my front door where I was promptly met with a wolf-whistle. "Damn, Drake, that's a really good look for you."

"My hair felt too long," I shrugged and pushed some of the locks to the side.

"You kind of look like that one superhero, with the big 'S' on his chest. What is his name?" Shea asked, completely stumped.

I rolled my eyes. "My hair isn't that short. And if you don't know his name, then I'm not telling you. His name is the easiest one to remember."

"Well, whatever," Shea huffed. "Let's go, we've got a job to do."

Getting into the estate was the easiest part. Navigating around all these people proved to be an entirely different task on its own, since we still had a part to play. There were four of us total that crashed the party, each snagging a silver tray and heading out to the ballroom.

The ballroom was simple and elegant with blue and gold accents everywhere. People in shimmery dresses and pressed suits were chatting among themselves in a sea of blue auras. I found myself tensing at the sight as I always did in the presence of another fae. I felt a hand snake into my own and give me a reassuring squeeze, and I looked to Shea who gave me a smile behind her mask before she walked off. Her high ponytail swayed with her as she navigated her way through people, looking for her target. I looked to the head of the room, where a large crystal bowl stood in front of an altar. Amarisse and her father were nowhere in sight.

The plan wasn't to hurt anyone. Rather, it was more of a stupid prank than anything. At least, that was the distraction.

Shea wanted all major council events down in her calendar, hence why she wanted to come to the closest council member's office. Since everyone would be too distracted by Amarisse, now seemed the perfect time to snoop. One of the other two was tasked with that, since Shea and I had our own plans as well.
