Five years later, Alina was finally out of college and looking for a job that would stay within her business degree. She was online looking through all the businesses that were hiring and there was only one position that would work for her. The position was a front desk receptionist at some place called Shield Core. Alina had never heard about the organization but decided to apply for the job anyway. 'It doesn't hurt to try, right?' is what Alina was thinking as she hit the submit button after uploading her resume and cover letter. Alina saw the successful upload pop up on screen and turned off her computer to go do something else.
Over at Shield Core, Woodland Demars was sitting behind his large, mahogany desk, in his extra comfy, large leather chair, and spacious, luxury office. Woods was the owner of Shield Core and spent most of his time at that desk. He loved that he could order people around. There was nothing that could be better than that. Unfortunately, because of his behavior, the company lost their front desk employee and needed a new one. He was just about to leave his office when his office phone beeped.
He pushed the call button and sighed, "What is it now, Mariah?"
"Sorry to bother you, Sir. I was told to inform you if an application came through for the front desk job and one just did," she quickly replied.
Woods hesitated before he answered. That ad just went up at 8 in the morning, as far as he knew. "Okay well send it through to my email and I will look at it later."
"Yes, Sir, right away," answered Mariah.
Woods leaned back in his chair wondering what kind of person would have applied for a front desk position at 9:30 in the morning. He had heard about people looking at job openings once they wake up, but he never thought that they applied to a job before thinking about it first. Then again Woods never had to apply for a job, his dad handed him this company once he graduated college.
Meanwhile in the basement of Shield Core, Tanner Malmedal was typing away at his small, oak desk in his small, rolling desk chair. He has been staring at his computer screen for about an hour and a half. Shield Core opened at 8am and closed at 6pm and Tanner was there every day, all day. He was the manager of the IT department of the company and needed to make sure that everything ran smoothly. He rarely left his office once he showed up, so if someone needed their computer fixed Tanner would send one of his people to fix it. The only time that he would leave his office was for a new employee computer set-up or if someone specifically asked for the manager of IT to fix their computer issue.
"Hey Tanner, I was going to get some coffee. Do you want to come with me?" asked one of his employees, Mike.
Tanner turned around and smiled at Mike, "No thanks, I think I will just stay here in the office."
"Do you want me to bring you back a drink at least?"
Tanner thought about it for a minute. He shrugged, "Uh...yeah...sure I guess a water would be nice. Thanks Mike."
Mike nodded and left the office. Mike was probably Tanner's closest friend out of the few friends that he did have.
Woods was back in his office after lunch and saw that it was one o'clock. He finally decided that it was time to look at the application that Mariah forwarded to his email. Woods released a long sigh as he waited for the document to open. He still didn't understand why this person applied so early in the morning. Then again Woods didn't know a lot about applying for jobs. He had this job handed to him on a sliver platter from his father. The document finally loaded, and Woods started to read through the application. He liked what he saw and decided that he would give this Alina girl an interview to make sure that she could handle the job.
