. . .

You stared at your reflection in the mirror, sorrow evident in your eyes. You sighed, turning away and standing from the chair. You didn't want to complain, knowing that people had it worse than you, but being a princess sucked. You were constantly bored, with nothing to do all day.

All you wanted was to live a normal life.

If your parental figures knew of your thoughts, you'd be damned to hell by them. A sad reality to live, a harsh truth to face.

You lived with your aunt and uncle, considering your father left you and your mother when you were young, and your mother died at battle. You glance into the mirror one last time before stripping of your dress, leaving it on the floor, and crawling into your bed. You curled up beneath the covers, hugging a plush pillow tightly. You buried your face into it, whining softly.

It was slowly becoming a thing to do daily. You hated being royalty.

A knock on the door jolts you from your self pity, and you peek out from the covers. Your favorite maid, Dawn, peeks into your room, and slipped in quietly. She picked up the dress you left on the floor and looked at you with sympathy. "Mistriss (Y/n)... Your aunt and uncle request to see you. Dress yourself, please. Dinner will be ready in five minutes." You smile softly. "Thank you, Dawn. And please, when we're alone, you can just call me (Y/n). Nothing formal."

She blushes to the roots of her unruly bright red hair, looking down. "A-Ah, but Mis- uh- (Y/n)... I'm a maid, you're a princess. I have no right..." "So? We're friends, right?" She nods slowly, her soft baby blue eyes meeting your (eye color) ones. "I mean, yeah..."

"Then just call me by my first name, Dawn. Tell Auntie and Uncle I'll be down quickly." She nods rapidly, dashing out of the room with your discarded dress in arm. You chuckle softly, getting out of bed to put on an evening dress and prepare for dinner. You pull on a silky (favorite color) one, putting on flats of matching color. You sit at your vanity, picking up your brush to smooth out your hair. You wink at the mirror and stand, leaving your room to go down to the dining hall. You loved your aunt and uncle, you really do, but they could be eccentric, so you wondered what they had in store this time. When you were a child, they had taught you to fear the dark, but they forgot to mention what happens in the light.

You reach the grand room, spotting your aunt and uncle already sitting there, uncle at the head of the table, and auntie to the right of him. You walk over, setting yourself down to the left of your uncle. "Good evening, (Y/n). What have you been up to?" He turned to look at you, posture perfected. You quickly mirror his straight back, smiling. "After lunch, I went to the library to read for a while."

Your aunt smiles, nodding. "I remember your mother loved reading as well. It's lovely you acquired that interest." A few maids came to set down the food on the table, quickly leaving so the royal family could talk in peace. You're tempted to roll your eyes at their skittish behavior, but really, you can't blame them. Your uncle is a scary dude.

After the three of you get the food you wanted, your aunt spoke up. "(Y/n), your uncle and I have been discussing topics, and have decided upon something. Are you familiar with the neighboring kingdom, Musutafu? Ruled by King Enji Todoroki."
