holland's pov;

it's lunch time and i'm sitting with parker and gen like always, but this time parker decides to bring his new buddy along today. carter, my ex bestfriend. i haven't said a word all lunch, to be honest i don't even think anyone really even noticed. i had forgotten how well carter had gotten along with parker and gen before him and i fell out. "yo, carter. lemme have a fry," gen orders, moving to sit next to him.

"no, bitch, get your own." he laughs, swatting her hand away.

"please," she giggles, dragging out the word, which makes me sick to my stomach. gen scoots closer to him and snakes a fry from his plate. i cannot believe she is actually flirting with him right now. honestly, i would rather be anywhere else but here right now.

i was about to get up and leave when i felt a presence sit next to me. i looked over and it was jack. "what are you doing?" i ask looking back straight forward.

"you looked a little lonely." he teases, "aren't these guys supposed to be your friends? they're not even talking to you," he whispers.

"yeah well, carter's back apparently so." i roll my eyes.

"so, they can just stop paying attention to you? and who's carter?" he asks.

"carter is someone that i do not associate myself with anymore, but now parker and gen decided that they now want to be his friend again," i explain in a way that gives the least details about our relationship as possible.

"why don't you talk to an
him anymore?"

"i don't wanna talk about it." i state, "i don't understand why you came over here still."

"because i wanted to talk to you." he tells me.

"bullshit. what do you want?" there is absolutely no reason he would come to talk to me if he didn't want anything. yeah, we had a good time at his house the other night, but he's barely talked to me since.

"come on." he demands, standing up from the seat. i shake my head no, still shocked that my friends haven't even noticed that i've been talking to jack. they haven't even looked in my direction. jack grabs my hand and pulls me up. "nope, get up. you're sitting with me now."

"no, i can't. my friends will get mad." i refuse.

"so? they don't give a shit about you right now. me and my friends will actually talk to you, so come on." he says dragging me away from my table.

"holland!" parker calls after me. i look back at him. "where you goin?" he asks, furrowing his eyebrows.

"to sit with me!" jack responds for me.

"she can speak for herself. holland, why are going with this asshole?" parker remarks.

"because i want to." i answer simply, and nervously. parker is my friend and i don't want to make him mad over something as dumb as where i sit at lunch.

"why? he's clearly a douche, you've even called him that before." parker was clearly getting agitated.

"shut the fuck up, man." jack chuckles, a little angrily.

"you're the one being the douche right now, parker. you or gen haven't even said one word to me before now. you two were too busy ogling over carter, who i didn't even wanted sitting with us in the first place," i reply.

"you still got a problem with me? let's just work it out, i miss you, holland." carter suggests, making my face burn with anger.

"fuck you, carter." i seethe, jack must've noticed my anger and put his hand in the small of my back, which, for some reason, calmed me.
