Chapter Three
“Clutch? Is that you?” A frizzy haired red head asked me looking at me like I was… someone else I guess. My brain hurt so badly I couldn’t conjure thoughts that made much sense, I felt my lip go droopy.
“Clutch is me!” I said smiling proud I could come up with that, I was so toasted. Good thing my parents had spent the night on the beach in the yacht tonight or I would be SO dead. Actually I don’t know, they hadn’t seen me drunk and I didn’t want to start now.
“Wow your drunk!” The girl said snorting as she steer me away from the dance floor.
“Yo red where you taking her?” Some really, really, drunk guy yelled at… red? Jeesh my head was POUNDING! I needed a drink. I pressed my index fingers on my temple trying to ease the pain, it didn’t help.
“Over the rainbow to catch some unicorns!” She yelled sarcastically, at least I hope she was being sarcastic. “Damn I hate drunk people, come on Clutch I gotta get you out of here.” The fog was lifting as a glass of water-like liquid was forced down my throat by Dell, yeah Dell that’s her name!
“Here you might want to take these, I heard alcohol sucks for the head.” She twanged in a southern accent that triggered a memory, she was my best friend Dell! I smiled at her which got me a look and two advils shoved into my hands.
“Thanks Dell, I owe you!”
“A couple times you do!” She said snorting as she crossed her arms over her small frame, Dell was maybe five two and hardly a hundred pounds. But she was fierce, you couldn’t get away with anything around her! She was typical party police, except she never tallied on me unless it was big. She was always there for me, she didn’t like big crowds and half the people I hung out with but she put up with me. and I wouldn’t ditch her for the biggest trouphy!
“Whatever twirp!” I threw at her then burst into laughing, I looked around to see where I was. We were in the upstairs bathroom, the music was still shaking the walls and people were banging on the door to be let in.
“Great party!” Dell exclaimed gesturing to outdoors.
“I know you hate parties, so what are you doing here?” I asked her, she rolled her eyes and grabbed something from her sweat shirt pocket.
“You’d think I lived under a rock or something, and plus I wouldn’t miss your party, at least not your sixteenth!” she said handing me a small box it was wrapped in my favorite color; blue.
“Awe thanks you didn’t have to get me anything! And thanks for coming out here!” I hugged her tightly which was another thing she didn’t like so much. She wasn’t very touchy-touchy, she liked to be by herself which was the opposite of me I had to have someone around me constantly!
“Aren’t you gonna open it?” She asked pulling back from the hug, and she hated spot lights aimed at her. I laughed and jumped up on the counters to open the present. Inside the box was a pair of gold cages with black and red dice inside, I smiled, something like this you only could get from Dell. She lived with her grandma above her antique shop, right across from the book store. Which was her home away from home, I was always jealous of how well Dell could be herself!
“I love them!” I exclaimed holding them up to my ear looking in the mirror, I couldn’t help but smile at Dell. She knew me better than I knew myself!
