Chapter Six

“So what’s the matter?” Carter asked as we were killing zombies, or I was trying to kill zombies.

“What do you mean?” I asked him trying to play dumb, maybe if I just stopped thinking about last night it would become the truth, I needed to talk to Dell or Tana about this, not my younger brother.

“Why are you here at home with me playing video games when you’re usually with your friends?” I tried to ignore him but he paused the game, I twisted towards him.

               “Nothing.”

               “Liar.” He said sing-song.

“Fine, I just have a lot going on right now.”

“Sixteen is gonna be a hard year, huh?”

               “Too hard I’m afraid.”

“Great good thing to look forward to.” He muttered under his breath I just stared at him, I hope my brother doesn’t end up like me. Harsh but true, I don’t want him to try and be popular; become someone you’re not just to have lots of friends. My brother might be a nerd but he has friends that care about him, friends that wouldn’t let him get drunken outta his mind and sleep with someone he wouldn’t even remember. I know it’s mainly my fault that I got drunk and slept with some guy, but honestly someone should’ve stopped me. And I knew if I would’ve been hanging out with Dell this wouldn’t have happened.

“Carter will you promise me something?” I asked him as he resumed the game; I licked my lips since they were cracked and swollen. Probably from all the kissing I did last night, just thinking about last night brought sharp memories that I swallowed back down.

“Sure what?” He asked like an innocent thirteen year that he was.

               “Keep your friends.”

               “What?”

“Keep your friends, and when you get into high school; stay with the nerds and the “uncool” kids, don’t get caught up with the popular kids and never try to be someone you’re not… it only gets you into trouble.”

“Are you in trouble Clutch? Should I be worried?” I reached over to mess up his hair, he groaned.

“Not about me bro, now go play with your nerd friends, they’ll be the billionaires someday trust me on that!” he smiled and threw a pillow at me as I left.

               “Whatever you say shrink!”

“I’m serious! And don’t do drugs!” I added shutting the door; I needed to talk to Dell, now!

I took my phone from out of my pocket and dialed Dell’s number, I forced her to have one or that girl would be lost in the fictional world forever! She answered on the third ring, I sighed waiting already inpatient.

“Yo?” she asked in her “I’m cool” voice, I smiled at the normalness to it.

“How soon can you meet me?” I asked trying to keep my tone normal, she was too smart to think nothing was wrong, I never met her this urgently.
