Dawn's Pov
"Remind me again why I agreed to do this with you?" I slurred as Becky and I both walked to my car.
She laughed drunkenly. "But it felt good, didn't it?"
I nodded. "It's...mhm...late, David is going to be pissed." I got in front of my car and held on to the door for support as I fished for my keys.
She staggered a few paces and ended up holding the lamp post for support. "I feel bad about letting you go alone. I can come with you and explain."
"Oh no, it's fine. I'll handle my husband. You worry about getting home without shagging your landlord."
She hiccupped a laugh and I smiled, stepping into the driver's seat.
"Call me okay?" She urged, waving.
Nodding, I revved the engine and drove home, feeling woozy as I did.
The drive was a haze of flashing red stop signs and cars honking. My phone buzzed half of the time with calls and texts no doubt from David but I'd been too tired to fish it out of my bag.
The moment I arrived, I drove into the garage and dragged myself out of the car. God, my head hurt, and the huge sensation to throw up hung at the back of my throat like a scratching itch.
Somehow I made it into the living room and nearly winced when the heavy lights suddenly turned on.
"Jesus Christ, Dawn." David all but reprimanded, adding to the ebbing in my skull. "Where the hell have you been?"
He was ambling toward me, a mix of worry and anger on his beautiful unshaven face and it was totally inappropriate at this moment but those blue shorts obscenely hugged his lower half.
Or was it just my drunken eye seeing things that weren't there?"
No, no, it couldn't be.
"Dawn?" He clenched his fists and I snapped my eyes up, realizing belatedly that he had asked me a question.
"Nowhere that concerns you." I slurred out, walking past him and knocking off my heels as I headed for the marbled stairs.
"Dawn." He followed behind me but I ignored him and continued my walk.
"Dawn, I'm talking to you." He drawled again the moment I entered the bedroom and tossed my bag on the bed.
"Dawn?"
I took the rubber band out of my hair and let it cascade down my back.
"Dawn, I'm freaking talking to you, answer me!"
I winched, still not sparing him a glance as I walked over to my makeup table and took off my accessories one by one. "Do I have to?"
"I deserve to know." He bit, catching my eye in the mirror with a gaze so intense it sent shivers down my spine.
"What you deserve is a gold medal." I looked away and focused on pulling off my diamond necklace; a late wedding gift from my sister, Paula. "Because no one gives a whiplash like you do."
"I'm trying hard not to lose my temper but you keep pushing me over to the fucking edge." He was behind me now. I could smell him, almost feel the heat radiating from his body. "Enough with the games." In one swift move, he grabbed my elbow and spun me around. "Where the fucking hell did you go and why are you dressed like that?"
