I fast walked down the hall to the infirmary. I just got hired and within three minutes of sitting there I already have a patient. I was reading the rundown of the position, what to ask and when, and how to record my findings when she came in. The Head Master posted a note on the door explaining that the old school nurse is now an English teacher and that I am the new school nurse. She eyed me, noticing that I was in my early 20's. "Your the new school nurse, huh?" I nodded to agree with her and went and opened up the program the list told me to use.
"What's your name young lady?" She responded by telling me her name, age, and grade. "Thank you and what is your gift?" She informed me that she was an angel, which is why I recognized her. I was in class with her on my first day. I nodded and asked her what was wrong and what the symptoms were.
"I have a stomach ache and my head is pounding." She responded lightly. I nodded and jotted a few things down before getting the thermometer out of the first drawer in the desk. After leaving it for a little, she had a temperature of 101 degrees. I told her the temperature and told her that she needed to lay down. Also that if she gets to feeling any worse to let me immediately. She nodded and went to lie down on one of the cots that are set up here.
"Not bad for your first. Next time though, you need to ask simple questions like what they did that morning and what all they ate and drank. That way its a bit more accurate." Mrs. VonBrucken was standing in the door way straightening her hair back down. It had puckered up in the front and she was determined to make sure that it was flat. I chuckled and she looked up. "Just remember to ask all those questions next time. Okay?" I nodded in agreement and she smiled back. "Well, I have to go back to the office. If you have any questions, come talk to me at anytime. "
"Can I also take normal classes. Like music class or astrology? That might make it easier to fit in." She took that into consideration before she left. She never did answer me and I don't think that she was going to. I pulled my cell out and told Grey the news. 'Guess who's the new School Nurse?' . Not long after he replied, 'Who?''. I sighed and told him me before shutting my phone. My lunch break was the same as the other students and I could eat with the students or the staff. It was up to me. I choose students. I didn't have very many others come in. It was almost desolate until lunch drew near. At about twenty minutes until, there was almost a line out the door of students, most to take their medicine before lunch. I had set out a piece of paper with a pen and told them to write all that information down and the reason they came so that I could get out their medicine, although I did have to see their School I.D. to make sure that it was really them. Apparently there were a few students at our school who said they were someone else to get some medicine. It was about a week before the staff found out. It blew up into a huge situation and the kids were suspended and had to pay for the refills.
Lunch went by all too quickly. It seems that as soon as I sat down, I was standing back up to leave and go back to my job. There was a letter on the desk that had my name written on it. I opened it up and there was a schedule for me inside. It stated that I would work for three-fourths of the day and had Intro to Astrology 101, Lecturing Level One, and Music Level One. Great. I remembered that I had music with Grey and that cheered me up. But lecturing, hmm... I thought about who all might be in the classes and was a little worried to be attending it. But that didn't matter. I was mostly a staff member instead of a student. About ten minutes later I had two kids come in. I took all of their information and gave them a diagnosis. They were both sick and had fleas, which wasn't uncommon since they were both werewolves. I treated them and was bored after they left. There weren't any other people after they left and I sat down to wait. I will be starting my classes tomorrow so I can't join yet. I contacted the Headmaster and she said that I can go ahead and close up shop and that I'd be on call in case of emergencies. So I put a "Be back tomorrow" sign on the door and headed for my dorm.
I texted Grey and asked what we were doing later for our date. He replied with the typical "You'll see soon enough." I hated hearing that. Because I don't know what to wear. I asked him formal or causal and he said dressy casual. I took that as important enough to dress nice but enough to not put curlers in and a dress on. I went with black skinny's and a normal, nice black shirt. I need to go shopping. Maybe get more clothes than all black Tee's and band shirts. I shrugged the idea and went in to the bathroom to check myself over. Everything seemed okay but I had a funny feeling like I was being watched. Slowly, I turned and jumped when I heard a fimiliar voice say, "Hello sweetheart. How's school going?".
My mom was standing in the corner watching me intently. "Are you about to go on a date Cassia?" she asked. All I could do was nod. I was taken off guard by her showing up, then knew something had to have gone wrong for her to come so suddenly. I can only remember one other time when this happened. I was back in 7th grade and was about to punch a kid through three walls when I got a note from the office saying that my mom was there to pick me up for a doctor's appointment. She saved me then, so I can only assume she's trying to save me now. But the question is, what is she saving me from?
"What's wrong mom? You'd only do this when there is a dire situation and need me." I seen a look of surprise pass her face, then she went to calm, cool looking mom. She shrugged me off before walking around. She eyed my room, with a confused look. "I'm about to fill out the paperwork to paint it. Maybe see if I can put decals on of my favorite bands". She nodded but wasn't even paying attention. I could tell something else held her mind, and I knew she wants to wait for me to bring it back up.
"I know that I showed up suddenly, but I had another one of my visions. I needed to make sure you were ready to deal with it." The look on her face made me realize how important it was. I knew that as I much as I didn't want to, I'd have to cancel my date with Grey tonight and hear her out. She'd never leave otherwise. I texted him the bad news. I barely got to glimpse at the reply when my phone died. I walked over and plugged it up to the charger then returned my gaze to her. "I'm sorry Cassia. I really didn't mean to ruin your date tonight..." she paused to steal a glance over at me. I just half smiled, waiting impatiently to find out the situation. "Do you mind if I stay here for a while? I know that you were happy to leave me and your father behind, but you're going to need me. There's an old family secret I never told you Cassia. I want to wait for you to figure it out before I tell you. So if you want, you can still go on your date. I can apply for the nurse's assistant or something." She waved off the last part and I snorted.
"Your going to be my assistant. Please." She shot me a curious glance. "The headmaster asked if I could become the school nurse. Mom, I'm so far advanced than all the other kids that I passed every single class. Even the college classes!" She had a startled look on her face, but calmed down knowing that I was right. I was practically a walking Encyclopedia about all things dealing with the supernatural. I went to my now at 5% cell and asked Grey if it wasn't too late for our date. Once he replied no, I smiled. Turning to my mom I said, "I'm going to take up your offer to go on my date. But your not the only one with a secret to share." I winked and walked out leaving my mom wondering to herself.
