Chapter 16

Alexander started to cry and Kate took him from Rick and excused herself, leaving Martha and her son to talk. "Richard, josh can't just do this can he?" Rick pulled Martha In the loft and shut the door, taking the time to grab the papers she had dropped.

They sat at the counter and looked through them, "it looks like he can try, mother." Rick sighed, rubbing his hands over his face.

"You're going to fight right? Alexander might not be blood, but your his father."

"Of course, I'm going to hire the best of the best, but all we can do is fight." Rick sighed and Kate descended from the stairs, a happy and clean Alexander bouncing in her arms.

"All clean." Kate smiled a weak smile and passed Alexander to Martha, suddenly feeling dizzy. Rick stood up seeing her pale face and she grasped his arms before she collapsed. He caught her but her head fell and smacked off the corner of the island.

Rick pulled her into his arms and carried to into their room and laid her gently on the bed and ran to grab a towel from the bathroom. He Placed it over her forehead that was bleeding bad, he called 911 and requested a medic. "Mother! Unlock the door, medics are coming."

Martha did as said and set Alexander in his height chair to go check on her son, "is she going to be ok?"

Rick nodded, "she needs stitches and I have a good idea why she passed out, but I don't want to take any chances." Martha nodded and soon two medics came in the bedroom and Kate started to regain consensus. Seeing strange people hovering over her she panicked.

"Rick-"

"Kate, I'm Molly, your going to be fine, you need to get a few stitches and get checked out by a doctor to see if you have a concussion."

As the two tried to out her on the stretcher she fought, "I'm fine, I don't need a doctor."

"Sweetheart." Rick came around so she could see him, "let them take care of you." He brushed his fingers over her forehead and they succeed in getting her on the gurney. "Mother watch A.J. Please." Martha nodded and Rick ran out if the loft after the medics.

-hospital-

in the ambulance Kate was in and out, when she was awake, she complained her head hurt. It was all blurry for her but the medics got her into the hospital and into a room so a doctor could check her out. Kate was laying on a hospital bed a doctor putting 5 stitched above left eyebrow.

"Alright Kate, one more and we're done." The doctor smiled and finished. "Ok, I'm just going to clean it up and then we'll see how bad your concussion is."

"Are you going to let my," she paused. She couldn't say boyfriend, they would never let him in. "My husband in?" She finished and the doctor nodded.

"A nurse in bringing him in now." He helped Kate sit up and he put a patch over the stitches and Rick came in. He kissed her hand knowing her head was sensitive. They did a routine check up and Kate only had a mild concussion, nothing too concerning, she would just have to take it easy for a few days.

The doctor explained why she fainted was because of the amount of stress and shock her body was forced into in a short time. A nurse came in with the discharge papers and Rick filled them all out and they were free to go. "I'm sorry this is happening Kate." Rick slung is arm around her shoulders as they walked out of the hospital.

Kate shrugged, "we'll talk about it when we get home."

As they walked out if the doors a car pulled up and a man jumped out of the drivers seat, "Katie!" Her father pulled her into his embrace and after a tight hug he pulled back looking at her, "are you alright?"

"I'm fine, dad." Kate turned to Rick, "you called my dad?"

"I had to Kate, he needed to know."

"Did you ever think that maybe I wanted to do it on my own terms?" She was pissed but grateful at the same time. "I'm sorry, Rick, Let just go home. Dad, I'll; we'll explain everything at the loft Ok?" Jim lightly kissed her forehead and helped her into the passenger seat and Rick slid into the back seat, not at all sorry for calling her father.
