Chapter 18 (two weeks later)

Kate was pacing from one end of her room to the other. She was beyond nervous and she didn't know what to wear. She had on her underwear and bra, cloths laid out on the bed, but she was do scared she jumped when she heard a knock at the door. "Kate, honey?" Ricks voice came through the door, "can I come in?" Kate tried to answer, when she didn't Rick came in anyway, "Kate."

He paused, silent tears were streaming down her cheeks and she was slightly crying. He went over to her and guided her to sit on the edge of the bed. "Just take a deep breath." He stood in front of her, his hands running up and down her slender arms.

"Rick, what if-" he shook his head.

"no 'what ifs' ok? The judge won't take him away today, Kate, I understand that your scared, but I don't think anything is going to happen today." He kissed her forehead lightly, avoiding the stitches that were still on her head. He stood her up and have her a tight hug, whispering in her ear, "get dressed, and we'll go, or we will be late." Kissing her neck just below her ear, Rick exited the room and left Kate to change.

With shaky hands, she put in her grey trousers and her purple blouse, checking the merrier once more she let out a shaky breath and exited to the living room. She took Alexander from Rick the moment she saw him. "Momma and daddy will be home soon bud," she kissed his face all around making him giggle, "thank you so much Alexis for watching him."

Kate said setting Alexander In his Hight chair, "no probable, Kate."

She hugged the older women and Rick kissed Alexis head, "alright, pumpkin, our phones will be off, so if you need anything call gram, or the boys, and they'll be right here, Jim is also going so he won't be avaiable." Alexis nodded and they all said their last good byes before Rick guided Kate out of the loft.

-court house-

"Well, for now, I see the best for Alexander is to stay with his mother."

The judge stated and josh shot up, "no! She's not fit! She's always working and puts the job ahead of her life, and she's living with him! Doesn't even have her own house!"

"Mr. Davidson, please, sit. Ms. Beckett, care to explain?"

"Your honor, I have taken a year maternity leave after Alexander was born, and before he was I was on desk duty since I found out so I wouldn't put him in harms way. And my living arrangement with mr. Castle is appropriate, because we are in a serious relationship and he has helped me raise Alexander for the past 7 months and has helped me ever since I found out I was pregnant."

"What happens when you break it off with writer boy?"

Josh stated and before the judge could come in Rick answered, "we don't, we plan in getting married sooner or later."

"Very well, Alexander is to stay with his mother, ms. Beckett and Richard Castle. Mr. Davidson, I have absolutely no clue as to why would fight this because as far as I know you didn't know you even had a son. But I have made my choice as to what I think is best for Alexander. The boy already sees Richard as a father figure and there is no point in taking him away from that. Court is ajourned."

Kate turned to Rick and engulfed him almost knocking him off his feet. "We did it!" She said pulling back. Rick was about to answer, but their lawyer tapped Kate on her shoulder.

"Ms. Beckett, the judge wants to see you and I alone in his office."

Kate looked at Rick and he nodded, "your dad and I will wait outside." He kissed her head and tuned towards drake, their Lawyer.

"Is everything alright?"

"I honestly don't know, so let's go and find out."

Drake guided her to the office and they entered and judge McDonald smiled, "ms. Beckett, mr. Connor, please sit." They did and he offered them water but Kate declined. "Kate, this about you wanting Rick to legally adopt Alexander." The judge paused, "I'm willing to help you get that, and I bet your lawyer is too, but it going to be a way bigger fight than this was, you have to get Josh's permission."
