Chapter 17

As soon as they entered the loft Kate made a mad dash toward the living room to get Alexander from Martha. He smiled brightly when he saw Kate and giggled. Jim also entered the living room with Rick, Martha excused herself saying she had play practice she needed to attend. Kate was so focused on A.J. That she hardly noticed when Rick sat next to her and placed his hand on her Knee. When he kissed her temple she looked up at her father siting across from them in a chair, "so, Katie, what's going on? You haven't passed out like that since-"

"I know dad." Kate didn't want him to finish. "Today we got papers that Josh filed,"

"you mean the biological father?"

Jim questioned and Kate nodded, "he is trying to take Alexander .. away." She choked on her last words and Rick rubbed her back.

"How- he can't just do that can he?!"

Jim stood up so did Rick, "he can, but I'm, we care going to do everything within our power to make sure Alexander goes nowhere." Jim saw the sad look on his daughters face. Since she had Alexander and got with Rick, she has been her happiest since her mom died, and if Josh took Alexander away, the happiness would probably be lost forever.

Jim sat next to Kate and slung an arm around her shoulders bringing her and A.J. Closer as they both gazed down at his smiley face. "I'm going to go start dinner." Rick said kissing Kate's head.

"You know Katie," Jim said once Rick was out of the room, "he loves you and Alexander so much,"

Kate sighed but nodded, looking at her father, "I know daddy, I just can't imagine my life without Alexander now, not ever. He's my baby, our baby." She said referring to Rick. "I can't lose him, especially since I already lost mom."

Jim kissed her forehead and hugged her closer, "I know, bug, I know. But we're just going to have to fight though this the best we can so we can come out in top."

Kate smiled at her father, "mind watching him while I go shower?"

"Not at all."

Kate gave him Alexander and Jim used his baby talk and Kate smiled and walked to the kitchen, "babe, im going to shower, get fresh." She said placing her left hand on his waist as he turned around.

"Alright, take your time." He kissed her lips and she turned to walk away but wasn't fast enough. Rick slapped her ass with the spatula and it made Kate yelp, "what the hell?" She giggled but kept walking towards the bedroom.

Rick smiled at her as she walked away, rubbing her ass.
