Patton and Roman often used their weekends off to relax after a busy work week, but this time, the princely man had insisted they go out somewhere. Being his best friend, it wasn't as if he could say no. However, he was starting to wish he had.
"You wanted to go outside for once!" Patton said, rolling his eyes with a wide smile as they hurried through the pouring rain to find some place to take shelter.
"We can't spend every weekend in our little apartment!" Roman protested. His friend laughed as they continued. Their footsteps created large splashes, as a decent layer of water covered the sidewalk. Looking around desperately for a place to hide from the deluge, his eyes landed on a roller skating rink. "Hey, why don't we go in there?"
He nodded, smiling as rain water dripped from the strands of his hair and coated his foggy glasses. The two of them hurried inside, finding it fairly busy with several other people clearly getting away from the storm. Sharing head shakes and smiles, they shook themselves off, trying to get rid of as much of the water that was weighing down their clothing as possible. Patton's eyes traveled over toward the booth, gasping.
"Oh! Roman! We should go roller skating! We're here, why not?" he exclaimed, pointing toward the booth. His princely friend rolled his eyes but shrugged. The baker fist pumped in triumph as they started to walk over. "Yes!"
The two of them pretty much shared money at this point in their lives, so Roman paid for the rental of their skates and they headed inside. It only took them a couple minutes to lace up their skates. As they did so, they were met with a surprise.
"Is that Patton and Roman from Prince & Patton's?" a familiar voice asked, making the two of them look up with wide eyes.
It was just their luck that they'd bump into their crushes while soaking wet and taking shelter in a roller rink. Virgil and Logan were both already wearing skates, but weren't covered in water like the two bakers were. They fumbled for words as their faces flushed bright red. Patton recovered quicker, laughing lightly as he stood up.
"Yep, that's us!" he said, taking a step forward and immediately forgetting he was now wearing roller skates. Falling forward, he gasped and prepared for the embarrassment of hitting the ground. His hands landed on someone's torso rather than the ground, making him look in shock to see that Logan has caught him. A different kind of embarrassment washed over him as his cheeks got redder. "S-Sorry, I'm madly clumsy."
He tried laughing it off, but his mind was just screaming at him. "That's alright," the other man said, lips forming a slight smile as he helped him get back to a standing position. "Virgil often does the same."
"Hey! That was when I was like fifteen and had never done it before!" the darkly dress man protested, cheeks turning red under his white foundation. "And you know I'm better at ice skating than this shit."
Roman perked up at his words. "Oh, you ice skate?" he asked curiously as he carefully stood from the bench. He nodded, avoiding eye contact bashfully. "Do you like, figure skate?"
"Y-Yeah, I've been skating for about seventeen years actually," Virgil explained, rubbing the back of his neck. "It's strange since we live in Florida, I know, but I just really like it... I don't know why it feels so different from roller skating to me, but it just does."
The princely man knew what he meant, getting an idea. "Well for me it's the skate itself," he explained. "Roller skates are shaped differently, which is why I use roller blades."
"Roller blades," the darkly dressed man repeated quietly as he looked down at Roman's feet. He was clearly curious about it. "Does it actually help?"
He nodded, smiling. "They feel a lot more like ice skates," he reassured. "If you want I could show you."
Virgil nodded, smiling slightly. "Okay, we'll catch up with you guys in a bit I guess," he said to the other two. They nodded as Roman led the way toward the sizing booth with the darkly dressed boy in tow.
"Would you like to skate?" Logan asked as they left, making the baker next to start with surprise
A blush crossed Patton's cheeks as he smiled nervously. "Oh, um, you probably don't want to skate with me, I'm terrible at it," he said with embarrassment. "I'd trip you and then we'd fall and it'd be so awkward."
The intellectual young man smiled a little, shaking his head. "You worry too much," he said with a shrug. He took his arm, leading him toward the rink's entrance. He couldn't even protest because of the tingles that shot through his skin at the contact. "Come on, I'd rather suffer the possibility of embarrassment from falling than skate alone."
"O-Okay," Patton managed with a smile as they stepped out onto the rink.
At first he was alright, shuffling along while clinging to the wall. Logan just skated slowly next to him with a slightly amused smile on his face as they moved along. When it took them an entire three minutes to reach the first corner, he stopped him. "Okay, how about this?" he said, taking his hand off the wall. Patton's eyes widened as he did so, pulling him farther into the middle. "You can hold onto me when you feel like you're going to fall."
"O-Okay," he said in reply, smiling nervously. He was still gripping Logan's hand tightly, trying his best to skate a little smoother for him. Slipping, he fell against his side. There was suddenly an arm around his waist, holding him upright as the intellectual man chuckled. "Sorry! I'm just so clumsy. Oh no! now your shirt's all wet!"
"It's alright, just go slow," Logan told him, steadying him despite the water seeping into his clothing in the process. "Just push forward, one foot in front of the other."
Across the rink, Virgil bit his lip as he pulled on the roller blades. The barista had on the pair he'd put on when he and Patton had first picked out skates. Once they were on, he was scared to stand up.
"It's okay! I'll help you if you fall," Roman said, smiling as he offered a hand. The darkly dressed man nodded with a small smile, taking it and allowing himself to be pulled onto his feet. He didn't fall, realizing quickly that he'd been right; they felt like ice skates. He looked down at his feet in shock. "See? They feel like ice skates right?"
"Yeah actually, they do," he replied with a smile.
The princely man felt pride and joy flood his chest as they headed for the rink. When Virgil stepped onto the smooth wooden floor, his eyes lit up. Before he could say anything, he was skating. He was gaining speed exponentially, racing around the ring as Roman watched with wide eyes. "Whoa," he breathed as he whipped past with a smirk, the wind blowing his hair back.
The darkly dressed man then turned backwards and performed a simple axel jump before skating back over to the princely man. "These are fantastic," he said with a smile.
"So are you," Roman breathed. A smirk crossed the other man's face as his cheeks flushed bright red. "I m-mean your jump! That jump was fantastic!"
"Thank you," Virgil said with a smile. He then nodded toward the inner portion of the rink. "You wanna skate with me?"
He blinked, trying to shrug it off as something he might as well do. "S-Sure," he replied, gasping as the man pulled him by the arm.
