Trigger Warning: brief mentions of past self harm
Patton gasped as a couple of men skated passed, recognizing his best friend and his crush as they grew further away. "Hey! It's Virgil and Roman!" he exclaimed, pointing them out to the smartly dressed man next to him. The two men were skating fast, smiling at each other as they spun occasionally. It was clear they were both experienced figure skaters and that Roman's suggestion of roller blades helped the darkly dressed man gain his confidence back. "Wow! They're incredible at that!"
"They are," Logan agreed, smiling slightly at the shorter man still holding onto him.
"I wish I could skate like that," he said somewhat gloomily. "I'm sure you'd much rather skate like that rather than inch along with me."
He shook his head, smiling a little at him. The man squeezed his slightly and pulled him to go a little faster. "It's alright Patton," he reassured him as they moved along. "I'd much rather enjoy your company, and if you wish to go faster, I can assist with that."
Patton smiled nervously as their speed picked up. He was worried that he'd trip and cause them to fall and that Logan would hate him.
As he had these thoughts, his foot turned the wrong way and sent him sprawling on the ground. He pulled stoic man down with him. The two of them hit the ground, with gasps as their legs and arms entangled. The baker was laying on top of him, their face dangerously close. He stuttered as his wide eyes flew down to his lips and back up again.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" Patton managed, trying to get up. "I'm so sorry- see? I told you! I'm such a klutz!"
Logan just laughed a little, smiling at him. "It's really not a problem," he said, helping him to his feet. He stared at the intellectual man in shock, eyes wide.
Virgil and Roman had decided to take a break, passing a drink between them as they took deep breaths. They were out of breath and slightly sweaty from skating; the princely man wiped his forehead in an attempt to be attractive, but the other was more focused on their friends across the rink.
"Huh, Patton got him to laugh," he said, looking intrigued.
Roman looked at him in confusion and slight fear, wondering for the first time if he and Logan were boyfriends. He almost paled at the thought. Neither of them had asked their crushes if they were single.
"So... are you and him... like, you know, together?" he asked nervously, gesturing to the two of them.
Virgil looked at him in confusion as he looked between them. As he came to some sort of realization, his eyes widened and he shook his head quickly. "Oh, no, no, no," he said, laughing slightly. "He's like a brother to me. I was just pointing out that your friend made him laugh, which isn't something he does often. He is your friend right?"
"What do you mean?" the princely man asked, looking confused as well.
"You two aren't together, right?" he asked, raising his eyebrow.
Roman almost gasped as he hurriedly shook his head. "No, we're just really close friends," he reassured him. At least it felt like he was reassuring him; he wanted to make it clear that he was single so his chances of possibly being with this man were raised. He looked over at his best friend with his crush, smiling at their blushing faces. "They'd be really cute together."
"Yeah, they would," Virgil replied, looking at the princely man though he didn't notice. He smiled at them as well, feeling his chest warm at the sight of his stoic friend smiling.
He also felt warm from the skating, exhaling as he shrugged off his black and purple hoodie. It took all of the barista's will power not to stare his now exposed skin, but he did catch a glimpse of a purple storm cloud tattoo on his inner wrist. "Whoa," he breathed. The darkly dressed man looked confused before following his gaze to his tattoo in realization. Their eyes met, making a chill go down Roman's spine. "May I?"
He nodded, lifting his wrist to allow him to examine it. He took it into his hands delicately, running his finger along the design, mystified. It was at this close proximity that he noticed other things on his wrist. Tiny, faded pink lines, just barely risen up on the skin.
Each of their breaths caught in their throats as they looked up to meet each other's eyes in surprise. "Um..." Virgil tried, looking away and swallowing. "They're... they're from high school, I haven't done it in years..."
"That's... that's good, I'm happy you got better," Roman told him, offering an empathetic smile. He looked grateful as he nodded in thanks, making the princely man focus back on the tattoo. "I think this is beautiful. I've always admired simple tattoos like this, but I doubt I'd have the confidence to actually get one."
"It is something you have to think about," he agreed with a nod. "I just knew I wanted this one, you know? Like something about it just drew me in... you know what I mean?"
He nodded, smiling mostly to himself as he thought about how the darkly dressed man in front of him similarly drew him in. They seemed to both become of Roman's hands on his skin, their eyes meeting as their cheeks grew red. Virgil pulled his wrist back slowly, not as if he'd been burned or anything, but rather as if he'd just realized how strange it was for them to be touching this way when they barely knew each other.
"W-Well, are you hungry?" the princely man managed, trying to find something to say. When the man in front of him looked confused, he nodded to the snack store. "They've got food, I was wondering if you wanted anything."
He looked that direction, tilting his head curiously in a way that made Roman's heart swell. "Uh, I don't have any money on me," he explained awkwardly.
"Oh, no I've got it," he reassured as they walked that way. Virgil looked like he was about to protest, but he raised a hand. "Please, it's fine, what would you like?"
"I guess a blue slushee would be nice," the darkly dressed man said shyly, smiling a little. "And maybe some fries to share with Logan and Patton?"
Roman nodded, happily paying for the food. He ordered a red slushee for himself and a chocolate bar as the other man took the fries and his slushee to the table. Moving to join him, Virgil was smiling around the straw of his slushee.
"What?" he asked with a smile.
"You like slushees too," he told him, gesturing to the red frozen drink. The princely smiled even wider, nodding. "Yeah, we can get along."
Roman laughed at this, making Virgil grin. "Hey kiddos!" Patton greeted as he came over with his much more stoic companion. They seemed to be cautious, which made sense given their wipe out a few minutes prior. "You got fries? Yum!"
They sat down, Logan and Patton on one side and Virgil and Roman on the other. "So are you enjoying yourselves?" the necktie wearing man asked, adjusting his glasses.
"Yeah, Princey here might give me a run for my money in terms of ice skating," the darkly dressed man said, nudging him. "He's got some skills."
They all laughed a little as they shared the fries among themselves. It had stopped raining outside, but neither Patton or Roman were in a rush to go home.
