Miss Laurie
My alarm goes off.
I turn and see that Mark is still sleeping in the bed next to me and I wake him up. "Sweetie," I whisper to him. "It's time to get up."
He crawls out of bed and rubs his eyes. His hair is a mess.
I lay out his breakfast like I always do. Then we go out the door. Mark doesn't dance until 11:00, but we want to watch the other kids who are competing early.
We enter the ballroom. It's 7:00 right now but there's already a lot of people there. We find Reagan and Brooklyn... and... Conner? I go up to the three of them and Conner faces me. "I'm going to win today." He says confidently. Then his mom comes up to me and says, "Just give him one more chance Laurie. Reagan brought his outfit and convinced to dance."
I go up to Reagan and pull her away privately. "What about his foot?" I say to her. "The hurting stopped," she says. "And it's not like the bones will fall apart all at once."
I think about that and decide to let him dance.
It's about 8:00 now. Brooklyn, Maeve, and Reagan are about to dance. And so is Conner and Joe. I decide to watch the girls' first round and The boys' second round. Soon they will be dancing.
