Jake's POV:

She ran away again. It hurt so much. Every time her feet hit the pavement, my heart broke a little more. I wanted to chase after her, but I knew it wouldn't be best. I wanna keep trying to get her back but I'm just as damaged as she is by now. When someone you love rejects you -- when they want nothing to do with you --  it feels like your heart is a stick, that they easily snapped. The worst part is that you don't get used to it; in fact, it gets worse and worse. Well, that's at least how it's been for me. After she left, I didn't bother going back to the diner. She would've gone there, and neither of us would've been even remotely comfortable. So I walked to my car and drove away.

~ AT JULIE'S DINER ~

Abby and Miley were discussing something when I came back. I tried my best to wipe away the solemn expression on my face, but I could tell that my eyes were puffy and red. When I sat down, I knew what the first question would be.

"What happened," Miley asked.

"I don't wanna talk about it," I whispered, trying to erase the last ten minutes from my memory, but to no avail.

I had my head down, in an attempt to hide my eyes, but there was no need; it was obvious I'd been crying. A lock of my wavy blonde hair dangled next to my hand, so instead of engaging in the conversation, I fiddled with it -- twisting and twirling it until it knotted into a chaos of strands, losing my interest. I flicked it away, only for it to swing right back.

"Crystal, what do you think," Abby asked.

"About what?"

"We're going to use me to distract Kara while you guys sneak inside. I'll take her out for lunch, or something, and then you guys have the entire house for you to search! How's that sound?"

"Great, but how will we get in? She'll lock the house."

"Plan A is to leave the back door unlocked. If she locks that back up though, and I can't get you an entry, then we have plan B. But it is a little more difficult."

"What's plan B?"

"We'll get a key mold and recreate the key she has. I'll get that sorted, so that you guys have a plan b of getting in."

With my mind already so full, so it was hard to process but I managed to grasp the idea.

"I'll get a mold and recreate the key, then you can unlock the door. When I'm inside I'll snoop around, try to find something, but if I can't, you guys will get a better look. But it is extremely important that everything is placed back the way it was before! Think you can do that?"

I was still wary and hesitant to do this, but I couldn't let Kara get away with it. Then Jake came to mind. I will have to search a house with him. Just him, just me, just us. I didn't particularly want to do any of this.

"Jake will be searching the house with me?"

"Yes" Abby replied reluctantly. "But I can always ask him to keep to himself. I can talk to him."

"Okay," I whispered. Breathe in, breathe out. "I'll do it."
