Crystalline's POV:
Recap:
"Oof," I yelp as I bump into something hard. I look up to see Xander looking down at me. "Hey girlie," he huskily whispers. "What reason should you be purposefully bumping into the hottest guy you ever laid eyes on?"
"Ugh," I gag as I go around him. Boys. Suddenly two arms grab me from behind and pull me into a classroom. "Hey," I shout. "Let go please!"
"I just wanna talk. Let's make a deal."
"What?"
"I gotta tell you something."
"Uh... okay?"
I look at him suspiciously as he starts contemplating whether he should say it or not. He runs fingers through his hair before breathing out. "Okay... so, umm..." he starts. "Y'know Jake, right?"
My eyes widen. Is he going to tell me why they've been so onto me lately? "Yes?"
"Yeah, well... We, uh..."
"Can you tell me already?"
"Okay! We made a bet!"
What? I look at him, utterly confused. "What about?"
"At first it was who could get the most girls, but then Anna A... she... well, she..." Annabella? What has she got to do with this?
"She told us it would be better if we try and... get you, instead."
I feel as though I've just been stabbed. I should have known. "Oh... well... Thank you... Xander. For telling me."
I'm about to walk off when he snags my wrist. "Just wait. You can not tell anyone I told you! Okay?"
"Fine."
"And... can you help me win the bet?"
"Uh... no. You are not going to take my-"
"No! Like, just kinda lie and pretend I did?"
"I-I don't feel comfortable about that. Isn't there a time limit?"
"End of the term but please!"
"No."
I snatch back my wrist and walk out. I'm both furious and miserable because I was actually beginning to like Jake.~END OF THE DAY~
I plaster on a fake smile as I approach where Jake is. "Hey!"
"Hi Kitty," he replies. As I come over he gives me a peck on the cheek. I look down and smile sheepishly. I can feel myself blushing. "So, how are we gonna do this? I'm used to carrying a bag, not a person!"
"True."
I take off my bag and let my wings sprout. I turn around to see him gawking in amazement. "Woah," he cries out.
I giggle nervously. "So, if I can lift you in the air, I can fly you home."
He shrugs and comes over, snaking his arms around my waist. "Go," we say, in unison again. I crack a smile and shoot off the ground. "Woah," he cries again.
"Is woah your favourite word or something," I laugh.
"It is at the moment!"
I go back down to ground, so we can grab our bags. "Okay, let's go."
We shoot up into the clouds again. I spiral through the clouds, as quick as I can until we are outside the town, over on the country parts. I fly with my back to the ground so that he doesn't fall. "Y'know," he says. "I didn't expect to get on you so quickly, and usually the girl is on top."
I giggle a little. "Well, I could go on top, but you'd fall."
"Okay, I'm good!"We arrive at the BMX park in a couple minutes, and unfortunately, Jesse was there, showing off his awesome bikes skills. "Gemzy," he calls out, running towards me for a big hug.
"Jesse," I laugh nervously. "I, um... didn't think you'd be here."
"Look," he starts. "I know you want your boyfriend to not get the wrong impression because I'll apparently embarrass you, but I like riding my bike in afternoons, after school. You can't stop me."
I knew he was laughing on the inside. He had just said that, in front of Jake, out loud?! "First off," I argue. "He isn't my boyfriend-"
"Yet," Jake butted in.
I shot him a glare, but I heard Jesse trying to stifle his laughter.
"Secondly," I continued. "You don't embarrass me. I didn't want him thinking everyone knows my secret. Not even my parents know!"
I saw Jake's expression turn from amused to confused and shocked. "Now, um.. We've got homework to do, so, I'll see you tomorrow, okay," I say to Jesse. He nods and runs off with his bike, to try and do the course again. He probably wanted to try the jumps, as they are his favourite parts of the bike course.I smile as Jesse starts up his bike, and heads down the first dune. I feel a hand snake around my shoulders and I look up to see Jake looking down at me, smiling. I smile back, until what Xander said. I shake my head and start walking past the bike track. "So, that was Jesse," I say. "He found out about my wings last year. We've been best friends ever since."
"Sounds awesome. He seems cool," Jake says watching him racing over the dunes, and doing a high jump. He lands swiftly and continues riding. "Race ya," I say, running toward the alley. I hear his quick pace closing in. Game on. I speed up, fortunately for me my mother is an amazing runner, and I inherited her speed. I race down the alley and up onto my street, in such a fast speed, even Jake couldn't keep up. "And the winner is," I shouted as I reached my lawn. "Crystalline, with a record of beating Monsieur Jake by ten seconds!" We break into laughter.
"You know, I'm in the track team and I won the cross country this year," he cried amazed. "You just bet me! By ten seconds!"
"It's hereditary."
My fingers make their way up to my hair, slipping a loose piece behind my ear. I sheepishly smile looking down, digging the tips of my right shoe into the dirt. I look up to find him looking at me as if a were actually made of crystal. "We should head inside," I mumble.
I start walking down the lawn and jumping onto the pavement. I scoot to the door to find a sticky note pasted to the front door. It read:Bonjour ma chérie.
(Hello my darling)
Je suis allé à une réunion importante.
(I have gone out to an important meeting)
Vous savez où les touches sont maintenues
(You know where the keys are kept)
Je sais que votre petit ami va venir plus,
(And I know your boyfriend is coming over)
si vous savez qui je veux dire.
(if you know who I mean)
Prendre plaisir! Aucune affaire drôle. Je t'aime!
(Enjoy! No funny business. I love you!
-Amour, ta mère
(Love, your mother)I heard a light chuckle from behind me, and turned to see Jake, who understands the note. Oh yeah! His mother is French! Right. "I'm gonna grab the keys," I say. "Stay here."
I walk around the back of the house and go to our pot plant. I dig in the soil until the familiar feel of steel touches my finger tips. I dig out the keys and cover the top back up again. When I walk out the front, Jake is leaning against the wall, looking like a model. His eyes meet mine and my heart melts. If only you weren't lying.
I break eye contact and step to the door, jamming in the keys and turning the lock. The door opens and we head inside. "So, let's go and do our homework," I say enthusiastically. "Woo!"
"Why do you like homework so much, Kitty?"
"Because. I just do."
We walk upstairs, and enter my room. I sit on my bed and undo my shoes taking them off, so I can sit cross-legged on my bed. Jake just stands at the door looking at the books in my bookcase- which consist of some Shakespeare, romance novels, two rather large dictionaries, another for translating English-French, and some other series- my closet, desk- which was scattered in homework- and his eyes resting on mine that were watching him. I breathed in and looked away. "What should we begin with," I ask looking his way. He smirks and replies, "Well, how about some kissing and then we'll see where thing go from there." I give him my are-you-kidding-me look (which looks like -_- btw) then he chuckled and said, "How about we look at what we've got to do first, and then finish it off, and publish? Is that alright, Kitty?"
"Okay," I agree, smiling. "We have to finalize our intro and outro speeches and add more facts."
He comes and joins me on the bed. We start discussing anything needed in the intro and outro speeches, occasionally glancing at each other for a moment or two, before returning to whatever it was we were talking about. We were constantly changing positions as we researched facts about the media and "behind the scenes". We ended up resting our backs against the wall, next to my window. We were constantly in conversation about more than our project it seemed.
"I truly think you should try out for the track team," he reasoned. "You're amazingly fast, and you can get out of the shadows!"
"But I like the shadows! Plus, grades are my number one priority, which means getting this project done and dusted."
"Alright," he says looking at the screen before meeting my eyes again. "But you have potential, Kitty. You're... amazing. I didn't think you'd be so... perfect."
Our eye-contact doesn't break, but instead stays. I don't wanna look away. I look at his beautiful eyes with flecks of different colours scattered around his pupil, which makes me feel as though I'm being sucked in. I realize that his eyes leave mine for a split second, and flicker to my lips. He leans in and I start to close my eyes. Waiting for the feeling of something on my lips. After what seems like forever, I actually feel his soft lips connect with mine. My heart starts to race. This is my first kiss! His hands grab mine and he puts my arms around his neck, pulling him in closer. I move my position so I'm sitting on his lap, as his lips nudge mine open so his tongue can slip inside. I never thought my first kiss would be so good! He bites my lip a little and I moan softly, but clearly. His french kiss shows his hunger for my lips, as a roughness enters the kiss. We keep lip locking until I break the kiss to get some air. My breathing is heavily paced and so is his. Our eyes meet and I chuckle lightly. "You know that was my first kiss, right," I tell him.
"For a pretty girl like you," he asks. "That's hard to believe, but I'm honoured."
We laugh a little before we begin kissing again.
