The next week is incredible. I make friends with a lot of the lost boys, and got along with all of them well. Peter talked to Felix about what happened, and they worked out some sort of agreement. Peter made sure I was okay with Felix staying... well... alive. And I am. He hasn't bothered me since. He's actually been quite pleasant to deal with. I don't know what Peter did, but it worked. I became very close with one boy in particular, in a friendly manor, of course, named Jack. He helped me out with a few tasks I was curious to learn and we quickly bonded. We became mutual friends almost instantly. We're at another party and Jack is sitting with me on a log. The other lost boys are jumping and dancing around us, as Peter plays his flute.
"So now that you know my story, what's yours?" I ask him as I impale a marshmallow on a stick and hand it to him. He looks at it, confused, but accepts it anyway. He turns it over in his hand, inspecting it.
"First can you tell me what we're doing?" He laughs.
"We're making s'mores! I can't believe you've never done this before!" I giggle and accuse him in disbelief.
"What are s'mores?" He asks. I grin.
"You'll see, you'll see. Just hold the marshmallow over the fire," I instruct him and do the same to mine. "Now tell me your story." I turn to face him. He sighs.
"Well, back home, in London, my parents always fought. They would punch each other, beat each other, until one of them couldn't go on. The other would apologize and they'd make up, but do the same thing the next night. I tried to intervene one night and my mom punched me right in the eye. My father threw me out, and ever since then I've locked myself in my room as soon as they both got home. I didn't have anyone. Until I got here," He tells me everything, never taking his eyes off the fire.
"We're all lost here. I always read about Neverland in the storybooks, wishing it was real and Peter could come take me away from the harsh reality that was my life. I never expected this. To find a family. With people just like me. I thought they were just fables. Make believe. I never would've believed them if I didn't wash up here. And I've never been so happy about being wrong before," I say, my gaze trained on the fire as well. We both stay silent for a while.
"Oh! The marshmallows are toasted. Okay pull it back slowly, I'm not trying to get you burned," I laugh, cautioning him. He pulls it back and I carefully lie my stick across my bare thighs. It's beautiful outside tonight, so I stuck with a knit black top and very short light blue ripped shorts, with my hair in two french braids. I conjure up two graham crackers and chocolate and squish the marshmallow between them.
"Here, try it. But be careful, it's messy," I laugh and hand it to him. He drops his stick next to the log and bites into it.
"Oh my God, this is incredible!" He gushes. I laugh.
"Isn't it?" I finish assembling my own and start eating it.
"Just one question, why didn't you just create ones that were already made?" Jack asks me.
"Because that's no fun! Roasting the marshmallows yourself is half the enjoyment!" I joke and nudge him with my elbow as we both finish eating. I wipe off my face as Peter takes a seat to me and slides his arm across my shoulders.
"Hey," He says and kisses my cheek. I giggle and cover my mouth. Yeah, things couldn't get better.
But all good things have to come to an end, right?
