I'm back in the asylum, the red cuffs around my hands and my wrists chained. I struggle against the chains, but something's different this time.
My mouth is restricted by a cloth of some sort.
Horrified screams try to escape my mouth but remain muffled by the cloth. I hear footsteps.
"Hello, Miss Audrey. Quite horrid to see you again, isn't it?" She asks, her eyes on a candy red apple in her hands but her attention on me. Muffled comments of anger escape my mouth.
"Shut the hell up! Since you refused to believe me last time we had a little chat, I decided to bring in someone you might believe..." She says, holding out a hand to gesture to the door. The last person I'd expect walks through the door.
It's Peter.
My eyes widen and I struggle against the chains more and more. He laughs. Oh no...
"I thought I'd never have to see you again, love. My was I wrong. At least your lovely mother asked me to do something I could do. I don't know why you didn't believe her words last time. They were all true..." He walks over to me and kneels down in front of me. He picks up his hand to tilt my chin up to look into his eyes. I expect him to see the desperation and fear in my eyes, but his expression says it all. He doesn't care.
"You're worthless. No one should have to put up with you. There was a reason you lived on the streets. You had to have known that, right? You ruined Neverland. You ruined me. You were a mistake. You weren't supposed to be brought into this world. It's quite unfortunate that you were..." He leans forward so his face is only two inches from mine. "You should've killed yourself when you had the chance-"
My eyes snap open and I bolt up from my position lying down. I lose myself and begin sobbing uncontrollably. Peter is quick to awaken and pull me into his arms. This time I don't hug back. I run my hands through my hair and grab it, pushing my fists to my head to get the images out of my mind.
"Audrey... Audrey! Audrey... shh... what's wrong? Audrey..." He rambles with concern. He attempts to pull my hands out of my hair by pulling my wrists. I give in and let my body collapse against his. "I've never seen you like this..."
"It was awful! Worse than ever before! I was back in the asylum, my mouth gagged, and she was there! And you were there! She told me she needed me to hear it from someone I'd believe! You kept telling me how worthless I was and how I shouldn't be here! You told me I ruined you..." My words waiver due to my hysterical crying. He rubs his thumb over my bare stomach until my sobs quiet. Not dissipate, though.
"Sh... baby. As horrible as it was, it was a dream. I'd never do that to you. It's quite the opposite in fact. You fixed me, not ruined me. I love you... I love you so much... I love you..." I hear him whisper in an attempt to calm me down.
"Why'd they come back? And why worse?" I cry. Peter sighs.
"With your mother on the island, her lost child power, being a parent, is stronger since she's physically closer to you. She can't hurt you-"
"But it was never distance affecting the dreams, it was you... why did they come back? What did I do?" I plead. I look up at him and can see the guilt on his face. "Peter... tell me what you did last night."
He stays silent.
"Peter Pan! Tell me why!" I scream. He opens his mouth.
"I left in the middle of the night," He confesses. I pull away from his grasp.
"You left me? Even knowing that witch is on the island?" I accuse.
"I told you, you're safe here-"
"You know the nightmares go away when you stay!" I shout. I can see the guilt in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I just, I just have to save the magic. I love you," He begs.
I waiver for a moment. I know the magic needs to be saved, but... why would he have to leave in the middle of the night?
I grit my teeth and get out of the bed.
"Audrey-" He says and catches my wrist. I pull it away sharply and continue on.
"You told me you'd be back at night. And you left. Just like everyone else. They all had things more important than me. I thought you were different. Damn, was I wrong," I say before walking to the window.
"Audrey... no it's not like that I just... Audrey don't you dare go out there-" He throws off the covers and begins walking towards me.
"What do I have to lose?" I ask, my voice cracking mid sentence. I clear my throat and open the window.
"Audrey Mills!" Peter shouts. I turn to face him.
His bright green eyes are glassy. He looks frightened. His expression breaks my heart.
"Please don't go... it's not safe out there."
"You left me here!" I scream. His eyes dart to the window quickly, nervous that someone might have heard. "You... you... I don't understand..." I say, choking back a sob as I swing out of the window on a vine, not looking back at Peter.
