sean:

i dropped off kaycee to the front office and off to class i went. i sighed, hopefully today i won't go home hurting. i guess if i don't go home hurting then someone else did. a girl came in crying today, staring at that weird evan kid. someone's having a worse day than you sean.

i stared at the clock, my foot shaking up and down. 10 more minutes to go and then i have lunch. if they don't show up by then i'm safe. the fire alarm rang through the room and full panic set in. i'm coming home with bruises. we lined up at the door and began walking towards the exit. as the class turned to the side, i got pushed out of the line and replaced with one of them.

i felt pain throughout my body. my head pounded loudly in my head and i felt useless. i don't know how long it was until they left me there, no place on my body left untouched. i lay there, motionless. tears streamed quietly down my face as i tried to push my body up. a loud grunt came out of my mouth, i slammed my body back down onto the ground  and slapped my hands over my mouth. i heard footsteps coming my direction, and i began to panic, terrified that they were coming back to hurt me more. i turned my head to opposite direction of the door, hoping someone would think i was just sleeping.

i heard the door to the janitors closet open. then light shone onto my face and a gasp ran through the small room. i let out a breath, at least it wasn't them. i heard the door close and footsteps come closer to me.

"hey are you okay?" kaycee? no! she can not know it's me, she'll run away from me and think i'm the biggest dork and freak ever. i looked terrible and awful and-

"oh my god! sean! ." shit.  she grabbed my shoulder and turned me over to face her. when i met her face, all of the pain throbbing through my body stopped. i met soft eyes that felt like a drug to me.

"what happened to you!?"

"it's nothing." i said.

"sean are you fucking kidding me this isn't nothing! everywhere i look you have bruises and a black eye!" she shouted.

"shhhhh! i don't want them to hurt you either." i whispered, as i turned my head staring up at the ceiling, looking to my left hurt.

"what? sean who is hurting you!" her voice echoed in my head as tiny black dots started to appear everywhere

"it's a long story kayc. i would love to explain, but i think i might pass out."

"should i get someone?" that question almost made me snap out of it.

"no! just help me up please." i said, my head hurting more. shouting made things worse. i heard the door close and i assumed she left. i prayed she wasn't going to get someone, i can't have them hurting me more and more.

after a while she came back with a water bottle and some tissues. she cleaned up my body and all of the blood splotches. she held a wet cold tissue against my black eye. she made me take sips of water and after she was done, she gave me her lunch to eat. we sat in silence as she ate the remainder of the bag of apples i basically made her eat.

"why are you so nice to me?" i asked. i blushed, realizing i said that out loud and not in my head.

"what do you mean?" she asked.

"well you just met me and you did something so nice that not even my parents would help me with this." i said. she thought for a second and then spoke.

"because, you're sweet, and funny, and you're my friend. which is something i rarely have." she said. i smiled at her answer and motioned her to come sit next to me. she scooted over next to me and rested her head against the wall. hesitantly, i laid my head onto her shoulder. a couple seconds later, her head was resting on mine as well.

and in this moment, i felt worthy. of something, i just don't know what.
