Part II of Too Young, Too Loved, and Too Strong
Cora sat in the rocking chair of the nursery, holding her daughter in her arms. The baby blue walls reminded her of how Ashton wanted to paint the walls blue for their baby girl the second they learned the gender. When he passed away it broke Cora's heart but she vowed that her baby girl would always know who her father was.
Michael, Luke, and Calum were there for her every step of the way. Calum moved into the spare bedroom to help take care of Cora and the baby after she was born, Luke showed up frequently to help and Michael visited with the intention to be named the best uncle for the little baby. Pictures of Ashton were all over the walls and if you looked around you'd see his things still laying about. His drum set still in the basement, his guitar still rest on its stand in their bedroom, it hurt too much to think of moving them.
As little Ashton Marie grew up she learned about her dad; she learned about the man where her name came from. She asked one day if she could learn to play the drums and live on his legacy, Cora had told her baby girl yes but she was heartbroken to think about how he would've wanted to be there and teach her himself.
Ashton Marie joined a band in her teenage years, she felt like she was truly living her father's legacy. Her uncles supported her completely and her mom couldn't be prouder of her baby. Her band took off and they became overnight sensations. Ash Marie never forget about her father. The stories and videos helped her understand him more and she felt although she never got meet him, he was easily someone she could confide her deepest thoughts too.
Her band was at their first award show for themselves. Ash Marie has been to award shows for her uncles band but never for her own band. The young woman sat in the audience with her band as her uncles walked out onto stage to announce the next award. She was so proud of their accomplishments and could only hope for a career as amazing as theirs.
Luke started out talking, "we're so proud to be here to honour the amazing drummers that have be nominated for this category. Almost seventeen years ago our bandmate was nominated as a recognition of his life and we got to come up here and accept his award that year. Here are the nominees of 2035"
The video of the current nominees started playing; many names were in there but he one that meant the most was Ashton Marie Irwin's. The video ended and the lights went back on he boys, Michael stepped up to microphone and started talking. "As we wait on the results of the vote to be handed off to Calum, I just want to say a few things. Ashton Irwin, was a wonderfully husband and was preparing to be a father. His life was tragically lost before Ashton Marie was born, not only are we proud to represent our best friend and his daughter but all of the musicians who have lost their lives. Your legacies will always be important and remembered." A small nod of his head, Michael backed away from the mic looking at Ashton Marie with tears in his eyes.
Fumbling with the card in his hands, Calum was the last to step up to the mic. "No matter which nominee's name is on this card you're all so good and deserves to always be recognised." A short pause as Calum opened the card, his eyes widened and he leaned back to the mic "She's so young, so loved, and so strong. I'm so proud to say this, your 2035 winner of best drummer is Ashton Marie Irwin!"
Ash Marie stared at her uncles in shock with tears running down her face. Seventeen years ago her uncles walked up those steps to accept that award for her father; now here she is getting ready to walk up to her uncles to accept the award for herself. She stood and wiped her tears away before starting to walk up to the stage before she couldn't handle it anymore.
She ran up the steps tears rapidly throwing herself into her uncles arms. All three men hugging their niece tightly before letting her go to give her acceptance speech. Calum held back and wiped her tears while whispering some encouragement to her.
Ash Marie stepped forward to the mic, her award handed to her. "Wow um I don't know what to say, dang uh thank you so much for everyone who voted for me, you mean the absolute world to me, thank you to my bandmates for always being there for me and making me smile all the freaking time. Thank you to my family, supporting me as I followed a dream that I didn't even know if it'd be a reality. My momma, you've supported me even when it hurt to do so. My crazy uncles for teaching me everything they know; and last but not least my father who I never got to meet, who inspired me to become who I am today, and who is always my muse. I love you so much Dad" she sniffled into the mic and stepped back. Raising her hand in thanks she followed her uncles backstage.
He was too young, too loved, and too strong; but she was so young, so loved, and so strong. She was his carbon copy and he was her angel above.
