"And after I'm done, you can hate me, and I'll be fine, because I was a horrible friend... And I hurt you... And you can walk away knowing there was a girl you used to know that doesn't deserve your forgiveness." I took a deep breath. "I'm so sorry, Ohma." The tears came freely as I hunched over and sobbed. She was still standing with her back to me, her golden hair dancing freely in the wind.
Finally she turned around and I raised my head. She took slow, calculated steps towards me and sighed. "I don't know what happened to you. First you become friends with the girl you beat to a pulp. Then you stand up to the biggest bitch in the school. And now you're here, apologising for your mistake." I sniffed and sighed, my breath hitching.
"I'd be wrong if I said I didn't miss you, Key. But I was hurt, not just physically. You meant a lot to me, whether you knew it or not, and it hurt when you spilled. I understand you had your reasons..." She took a deep breath and shut her eyes. She took my hands in hers and opened them. "...and I forgive you."
I didn't believe what I'd just heard. Did she just say she forgives me? The heavy invincible load that rested on my chest vanished immediately and I sighed in relief. She smiled at me with her golden eyes twinkling. She didn't deserve a smile in return; it was too small. I pulled her close and hugged her tight. I heard her giggle, but she still hugged me back. "Thank you, Ohma. Thank you so much!" I cried happily. She patted my back and withdrew, holding my hands. "God, I missed you so much!" Her smile dropped and so did mine. "Ohma, what's wrong?"
"This may come as a big shock to you, Keyonna..." Ohma never used my real name. She either called me Kimmy K or Key. But for her to have used my real name, something was up. From her tone, it was something big. "...but my parents and I are moving to Australia." My heart sunk. I just got her; I couldn't afford to lose her again. I was about to ask why but she beat me to it.
"Hawks holds too many painful memories for me, Keyonna... And I can't stay here long or I'll lose myself." I nodded understandingly. "Also Ave passed and..." Her voice broke and she started to cry. I quickly wrapped my arms around her and patted her back to comfort her. "The doctors said there were no changes... She deserved to die peacefully... They took her off life support..." She started sobbing. I didn't know what it felt like to lose someone close to you, but I still had to share in her pain. After she had cried to her heart's content, and assured me that she was okay, I withdrew. She thanked me and I nodded in response.
"But if you leave... Who's going to be with me? Talk to me when I'm down? Give me advice? Make me feel better?" It was selfish for me to ask, but she did all those things for me. She was completely irreplaceable.
She smiled at me. "Well," she started, folding her arms across her chest, "I'm thinking of a silver eyed, not too pale, very handsome boy. He has gorgeous dirty blonde hair, pink lips and is very caring. He happens to be related to Stephanie and used to date my cousin. His surname is a combination of the colour of his eyes and red, with an 'i'. Ring a bell?"
