“I’M NOT DEAD. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!”
“B it’s ok…shhh…it’s ok…” I flail my arms in a desperate attempt to free myself, but something hard is holding me, and I can barely move. Whatever has me in its grasp won’t give way, but I can’t give up, I must free myself.
“I’m not dead, I’m not dead…I’m not…” sobs rock my body as the fight leaves me. My spirit sinks low as I give in to whatever force is holding me. “I’m not dead…” I sigh deflated.
“Oh B we know…” I feel as, whatever or whomever was holding me, gingerly sits me on the ground, then warm gentle arms engulf me into a hug. I know it’s Christy and I sigh in relief before my sobs come back with vengeance. “It’s ok B, it’s ok…” Christy soothes.
“This is embarrassing.” Those were my first words once I collected myself. “Gosh, I’m so sorry…” I look around me to the faces watching me and I feel self-conscious. I take a quick glance at my surroundings noting that these woods look too normal for Limbo, However there’s a new face I haven’t seen before, and I find myself distracted. Therefore, my eyes linger there longer.
I hear Christy clear her throat, but I still don’t take my eyes off the stranger. “B this is my mate.” Christy sounded shy, and even though I wasn’t looking at her I knew that she must’ve been blushing, which is really odd for Christy. Very unlike her to feel shy let alone blush. Though looking at the fine specimen she calls mate, I don’t blame her. Hell I’m blushing now. Though my Dante is hotter, I can’t deny how ruggedly handsome this man is. Hot, really hot, but I’ll never admit it out loud.
He has dark hair. His blue eyes are greyish, and unlike my Dante’s brilliant blue orbs, they seemed darker. This man looks dangerous in a sexy way. So intimidating, I wouldn’t dare approach him if we ever cross paths on the street. Though at the moment he seems very much uncomfortable under my scrutiny, which makes my blush deepen. And I finally have the decency to look away. I look up at Christy sheepishly, but she only gives me one of her smug smiles.
“It’s ok B! Hot, isn’t he!?” She exclaims with great pride and something else…possessiveness perhaps, I just return her smile with a shy one. Wait! He’s her mate? As in the monster that was following us and then tagged along?
“How did…? What…um…how is he human?” I finally managed to ask, though I didn’t succeed much at not sounding stupid. My brain must be on vacation. I look at him with renewed wonder. A werewolf…now human…a shifter?
“We’re in the human world.” The man offered as an explanation, not that I took much interest in his response. I was too shocked by hearing him talk. He can talk? He speaks human? Ok Brea now you really seem like you’ve lost your brain. I berate myself. After all I’ve seen and he being and talking human is strange? I roll my eyes at myself too, though I suspect that’s my wolf from somewhere deep within me.
“He says that only in the human realm is he able to be, well, human, not that he can shift like us. In the human realm he’s human, in Limbo he is, and I quote, a monster. His words not mine. Mine would be more like sexy beast, or something along those lines.” Christy elaborates on her mate’s behalf, and again I could hear her pride for him in her tone.
Christy’s mate has now a shy smile on his face, making him look less intimidating. I dare say charming even. He has barely spoken a word and I already like him. He could be good for Christy… But can I really trust him, a human monster…? My sisterly instincts kick in and suddenly I want to know more about this stranger.
