Y/N POV

The week after the Snowball was... different, to say the least. Whenever I hung out with the party, Mike seemed pissed at me. As in, more pissed than usual. Dustin barely talked to me. I had a feeling this had something to do with the Snowball, but I didn't say anything because I didn't want to embarrass him.

On the Friday after the Snowball, the whole party was going to hang out at Mike's house. I was walking out of the school building, when I felt a hand pull me aside.

I turned to see who it was, but I couldn't. All I could see was curly hair. The person who was pulling me away from the door was turned away from me, so I couldn't see their face.

As we got farther and farther away from the exit, I began to feel worried. Who was this person? Was it someone I knew? I could feel them squeeze my hand tighter, and I began to feel uncomfortable as well. Why was I just going along with this?

I began to try and put up a fight. I was pulling, and twisting my hand to try and wrench it away from their grasp, but they had a tight hold, and I could tell they weren't letting go.

After walking for about three minutes, I could see a door up at the end of the hall. They were pulling me towards the door, and suddenly, they opened the door and pulled me inside without a second glance.

I looked around the room and noticed several things. A.) There was a mop by the door, so if I needed to defend myself I could. B.) The person was standing across from me. I still couldn't see who they were, because it was pitch black in the room. C.) This was a janitor's closet.

Why would they pull me inside a janitor's closet? I turned to run out of the closet when the hand grabbed my arm again and I could hear the other person breathing heavily. I guess dragging me in here must have tired them out.

"Shit, you put up a good fight." Wait, that voice sounded familiar.

"Dustin?" I almost yelled. I was furious. Why couldn't he just have talked to me at Mike's? Why did he have to scare me like that? "Holy shit, Dustin. Don't do that!" I walked over to him and lightly punched him the arm.

"Ow." I heard some shuffling and then a light came on. Dustin was holding a flashlight. Now that I could see him, I could tell that he was nervous about something. What? We were friends. Best friends. What was he so nervous about?

"Dustin, why did you pull me in here? Is something wrong?" I stepped towards him and saw him gulp.

"No. Nothing's wrong. It's just..." I saw him look down. I knelt down on the ground so I could see his face. I smiled at him when he made eye contact, but he quickly looked away.

"You can tell me anything, you know that, right?" I stood back up and waited for him to look at me, but he didn't.

"I...I..." He started to fiddle with his hands. He voice became more and more squeaky as he became more and more nervous.

"Dustin just spit it out!" I threw my hands in the air, frustrated.

"Ilikeyou!" I could feel him sigh in defeat. My eyes widened as his words sank in.

"You-you what?" I couldn't believe it. I brushed my hands threw my hair and sank onto the ground.

"I-I was wondering if you wanted to go to the arcade sometime. Alone. Without the rest of the party." I looked up at him as he said this and sighed to myself.

"Dustin, I-"

"You don't have to. Really. It's okay if you don't want to." I watched him sit down on a bucket that was turned over, and felt terrible. What should I do?

"No, Dustin. It's okay. I would love to go with you." I smiled at him. He practically beamed with joy.

"Really? You really want to?" He stood up and knocked over some rolls of toilet paper that were stacked on a shelf. "Aw, shit." I laughed as he scrambled to pick them up, and knocked over a broom while doing so.

"Yes. I really want to." I felt horrible for lying, but I couldn't say no. I already felt bad for Dustin. I guess it was my fault we were in this situation, considering I had danced with him and kissed him on the cheek at the Snowball, but still. I didn't think he would take it this seriously.

I stood up to help him pick up the rolls of toilet paper all over the ground. I bent over and reached for one of the rolls, and before I knew what was happening, Dustin was reaching for it too. Our hands touched and I looked up at him so fast, that I actually saw the blush creep into his cheeks. I pulled my hand away and quickly stood up, not wanting to make Dustin feel even more embarrassed.

"Okay, Dustin, I gotta go. I need to go home before we go over to Mike's later." I picked up my backpack that I had dropped on the floor earlier and opened the door. The light from the empty hallway lit up the dark janitor's closet, and I felt the cool air rush into the heated space.

"Wait, Y/n. I was wondering, could I maybe walk you to Mike's later? I could pick you up around 4?" This time, I blushed. I nodded my head and waved as I walked out of the room and into the bright hallway.

Dustin POV

As I walked along the cracked sidewalk, I thought about what I would say to Y/n's mom.

"Hello, Mrs. Y/l/n, I'm here to pick up Y/n." I said aloud to myself. No, that was no good.

"Hi there, Mrs. Y/l/n, is Y/n home?" No, that wasn't good either. Shit, what was I going to do?

As I walked up her driveway, I kept trying to think of something to say, but time was running out, and soon enough, I was knocking on her door. Thankfully, Y/n answered the door, not her mom.

"Hey." I said.

"Hey." She twirled a piece of her hair in between her fingers and looked back over her shoulder. "Mom, I'm going!" She yelled into the house.

"Okay! I'll pick you up around 10!" I heard her mom call back. She walked out the door and shut it behind her.

"My lady," I motioned with my hand for her to walk by me, and then I followed suit. We both walked down to the sidewalk and started the 15 minute walk to Mike's.
