This would be the first time Kaye would meet any of Pauls kids. No duh, right. But she was nervous. Paul had introduced the idea of Kaye to his kids in a vague, I am seeing someone who is not mommy kind of a way. But now they were meeting in the home Paul shared with Linda. 7 Cavendish Avenue.
She had never been inside the home but had walked with Serena and Alice to it when they had moved from their small town. Paul and her never crossed that line. The line that says that you are disrespecting a family home. Now was different. Kaye was no longer disrespecting a family home.
The court had required this in the custody battle which had only ended when the judge who in annoyance had ordered a temporary agreement until 'both had cleared enough of their head to agree to act like adults.' Paul was annoyed.
Paul had been planning, since it had been six months since their marriage imploded, to ask Kaye to move in. Now he couldn't. Kaye was trying to remain on the outside of it.
But Paul had convinced Kaye to be introduced to his kids.
The door ring and Paul saw Kaye approach the door. Paul came up behind her and opened it.
"Daddy!" yelled out the three voices.
They all hugged.
"Girls this is Kaye Baird, Kaye this is Heather, Stella, and Mary."
Kaye hugged them. They went inside, played board games, listened to music, watch an old movie, and read books. Kaye did not know but she had made herself more attractive to Paul by doing that. Kaye was also building a role for herself in their lives.
----------------------------------------------Court-------------------------------------------
Court was almost done. Linda was running out money and Paul was running out of patience. Leslie had managed to convinced Linda to go for the first offer, which Kaye had convinced Paul to do, and walk away.
"May I be frank." said Leslie.
"Yes."
"You are fighting for something that- probably- never existed. He brings his girlfriend to court. Every time we arranged a reconcillation counseling. He is polite and shows up. But always states that he is there on the advice of Kaye, which even Dr. Sandra Gray, noted. He is giving you clear signs. But instead of accepting a generous offer, far more than Cynthia Powell-Lennon, received, you insist upon tormenting him and yourself."
"What do you suggest I do."
"Move on. Except that Paul is moving on and recreate yourself. Not as another Yoko Ono but as Linda Eastman, a photographer."
So Linda finally listened. Now they were finally reaching the tail end of the divorce. Paul was finally seeing the light and begun acting polite towards his soon to be ex wife.
It was the last day of court. Kaye was not there. The lawyers gave them room to talk and they did. Their conversation was a long one. Questions that were never asked, answered finally. Emotions raising and falling. It was therapeutic and when it was done, there was no questions of what if. Linda could move on and never question again. Paul would do the same.
