Fake

"The ones I loved fly as birds in the open sky above me. Soaring, weaving, calling to me to join them. I want so badly to follow them, but the seawater saturates my wings, making it impossible to lift them."

-Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay

"HAHAHA, ye-yeah right Pidge!" Lance laughed out loud in the open street, some passing by were staring at him.

"Oh, my fucking god, I'm serious! Allura actually kissed Lotor in the hallway, you could not see it but it was there," Pidge exclaimed, hands and arms wavering in the air, her light green shirt following.

"Ya! I faw et oo!" Hunk said while munching on a chocolate bar.

"Hunk, buddy, you got something in your mouth, I can't understand you," Lance said while giving a blank stare at Hunk.

Both the Cuban boy and the girl with her glasses hesitated walking on the sidewalk, watching silently at the full figured teenager with a bright orange headband, swallowing his food.

"Hunk we don't have all-" Lance started.

"It's true! Totally saw them. They. Made. Out," Hunk exclaimed, also wavering his hands and arms in a similar motion to Pidge's, still holding what's left of his chocolate bar.

Lance started once more , "Ugh, I'm not believing any of you until I see some proo-"

"Here, Cuban boy," said Pidge as she quickly held her phone in his face.

"He-hey!" Lance quacked, grabbing her phone, and turning away from his friends with it.

His eyes focused on the two "love birds" in the low quality recorded video. The background noise of the video was quite loud, obvious, and obnoxious. There was the banging of locker doors, footsteps and boisterous conversations of other students... and... not to mention Pidge and Hunk's frequent giggling and gasping.

But it was there.

Allura and Lotor, kissed.

They seemed happy.

Content.

100% for each other.

In.

Love.

And Lance was only there to watch it happen.

He closed his blue ocean eyes, his smile faded into nothingness, and handed the phone to Pidge.

"See?" grinned Pidge, "Told ya," as she and Hunk looked into each others eyes with a grin on both of their faces.

Lance's POV

I put on my mask once more,

cheery blue ocean eyes

a clean, cool, face,

and a fake smile.

"Yeah," I said, "I believe you."

Third POV

The lean teenager clenched his navy blue bicycle as he continued walking with his friends. The bike was rusty, old, and have obviously seen better days. But he didn't mind. As long as it did its job, then Lance was content with the nearly broken bike.

"Why do you always carry that bike with you? Do you not have a driver's license?" Pidge asked as she clutched the green straps of her backpack.

"Uh-" Lance started.

"Mom's busy," Hunk answered with a direct smile at Lance. Lance smiled at his best friend knowingly, giving him a Thanks, buddy expression. No problem Hunk's face responded.

The group of young teenagers continued walking the street, passing by adjacent neighbors, jabbering about what happened at school, what happened at home, and, just what happened in general.

The sky continued to be a light, glossy painting, with its white, creamy clouds moving in it. The sun complimented the rich, colorful leaves of autumn, the wind, delicately brushing the fallen leaves into the air.

Lance breathed in the clean autumn air, and exhaling his breath out.

Suddenly, the girl with the chestnut hair stopped. The other two ahead.

"What's wrong Pidge?" Lance asked as he stared into the oversized glasses on her face.

"Hunk, we gotta go. My house. Now."

"Wha-what happened?" Hunk squeaked, a worried expression across his face.

"Project, Mr. W. wants it done ASAP," Pidge said with her hand already grabbing Hunk's arm.

"You mean Shiro's boyfriend? Want me to help?" Lance asked with a chirp.

"Wa-wants what done?" Hunk asked interrupting Lance as he took his next breath to talk, Hunk's worried expression remained.

"Sorry Lance, but-" Pidge started.

"No no... It's alright! Advanced stuff huh," Lance said, arms crossed, his bike leaning on the side of his hips.

"I..I don't even know what's assigned Pidge expla-"

"I'LLEXPLAINOKNOWLET'SGOBYELANCESORRYWECANTWALKWITHYOUBYE!" Pidge screamed to Lance in one word as she ran frantically past him.

"Alright!" Lance exclaimed with his arm in the air, the other near his mouth so they could hear him, "See you guys later!"

And with that, they left.
