Okay, so I have to admit that my first day at Ovalin High wasn't the greatest one. Sure, I met two nice girls there and everything, but I've already made an enemy and I haven't even talked to the guy yet. I found out from Gwen that his name was Jacob Land but she always called him Jake, I guess that they were okay friends.
I'm not saying that I'm jealous, I wasn't interested in becoming Gwen's boyfriend, only her friend, for now. Gwen is a really nice girl, I found out that she plays the cello and that she came from Florida, but other than that, I didn't know her too well. We planned to meet each other at Starbucks tomorrow because she's already booked today.
And then there's Charlotte, her I have my eyes on. She seems like a really cool girl, I like her a lot so far. We met each other during science, something I specialize in. Our meeting went a little something like this:
I walked into science with my backpack slung over one shoulder and my science textbook in one hand. The only empty seat left was next to a girl who was scribbling furiously in her notebook. She was pretty enough and her face wasn't cake din makeup like those other girls who kept giggling for some reason.
"Hey, mind if I sit here?" I asked.
The girl looked up at me and offered a small smile. "Sure." She replied quietly. She set aside her pencil and stared at me with furrowed eyebrows. After a while, I started feeling uncomfortable under her stare. I later found out that it was because she liked to observe and analyze everything around her.
"I'm Alec." I said, holding out my hand.
The girl smiled a really small and shy smile again. "Charlotte." She replied, shaking my hand with her warm, soft one. She pulled it back and shut her notebook, placing it back into her messenger bag.
"What are you writing?" I asked.
Charlotte blushed and rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "Oh, just a story." She replied awkwardly.
"What's it about?"
She started telling me something about dragons and wizards and an adventure with a tiny love story that was extremely twisted. But what I was really paying attention to was the passion and dreaminess in her eyes as she talked about writing.
After that, I told her about my own passion, science. I told her that I wanted to become a scientist one day and she looked really interested about my views and everything I had to say. I could tell that she really wanted to get to know me, she wasn't just one of those girls who pretended to listen just to hook up with me.
I've had enough experiences with that to last me a life time. But I never did hook up with them.
We continued talking and I found out she moved here from a small town in Montana and I told her that I moved here from Texas [ which is the worst state in the U.S, if you asked me ].
She was so smart and quiet, like she wanted to figure me out before really getting to know me. I loved that about her.
After the teacher walked in, we stopped talking to each other, but I knew that I really wanted to continue getting to know this girl. So after school, I caught up with her and tapped her on the shoulder. She jumped and spun around, offering me another shy smile when she saw who it was.
"Hey, Charlotte! I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime. Like maybe get a coffee or something." I smiled at her.
Charlotte's smile began wider. "Yeah, that would be nice!" She replied, her eyes full of wonder and excitement. See, that's one thing about me, I can see people's moods just by staring at them in the eye. Charlotte was like an easy book to read.
