-RYLAND-
After I finished texting my mate I was wide awake. Of course I missed her, and wanted to be with her...but it was more so that I knew I'd be with her soon.
I smiled when I heard my phone ping with a new text. but it faltered a little to see it wasn't Raven but rather my mom.
[Mom: Just checking on you...call your mother every now and again why don't you?]
I decided I needed to call her, Of course I missed her and worried about her and Charlie.
"Great Moon Goddess he lives!"
I chuckled and rolled my eyes as I laid back on the bed. "Hey mom."
"Ryand...you don't know how much I'm missing you kid...you know Charlie asks for you every day too."
"I miss you too mom, and Tell Charlie I miss her too." I said "Hey mom...I was calling because I don't want you to worry about me, everything is fine I'm doing good settling in as Beta is going smoothly too." I filled her in.
"I'm so proud of you Ryland."
I smiled, "there's more mom..."
"Oh?"
"Yeah...I found my mate."
She screamed into the phone and I had to move it away from my ear before I suffered from permanent hearing loss.
"Oh my baby...oh you have to tell me all about her."
I smiled, "It's Raven Archer...she came up to stay with her brother, we met for the first time since she's shifted and the rest is history."
"Raven Archer....oh she's so gorgeous and polite."
"You've met her?" I asked slightly confused...I knew Raven was always away at school.
"Yeah she came home one Thanksgiving...it was when Alpha Royce was visiting the pack...she and the Byers girl went to a game of yours and they sat next to Charlene and I...of course That Girl was there too."
I easily picked up on the distaste in my mothers tone as she refered to my ex as 'That Girl.' To be fair she was always crazy and my mom never liked her...but we put up with a lot of shit when we're young and think we're in love with someone.
"The whole time when you weren't playing the game you'd look over at us, at the time I thought you were looking at That Girl...but you were probably reacting to your wolf wanting to see his mate...of course with her being younger than you the pull probably wasn't as strong since she hadn't shifted yet."
"Maybe." I sounded. "Well...as you can imagine being the mate of my current Alpha's sister comes with it's own set of drawbacks...To be honest with you Mom, I was wondering if it'd be alright to use the money Pops left for me, Gonna need my own place since I'm setting down roots here."
"That's your money son, and I think it's great you are acting responsibly with it...that being said, you're gonna need to support a family one day, and Beta's don't exactly make an income last I checked."
I knew she was right.
"Well I know cars...it's what I went to school for, I'll see if I can find a place hiring around town when I get back to the pack house."
"You can make more by owning the business."
I sighed, "Mom I don't know the first thing about running a business not to mention I don't know all the legalities there are for an American trying to own and run a business in England."
"Then first things first...find a good attorney, tell them about wanting the business, and getting your own house and what legally you are allowed to do...Next get yourself a money man...a personal finance or cheif accountant, They will help you manage your funds and let you know what you can afford to do."
"I know I have enough for a nice house, and my own car with what Pop's left me."
"And I can give you the money for the business." She added.
"Mom-"
"Uh, this is my money that my father left to me...not to mention the funds I'm getting back from the sale of the house."
"You're moving?" I asked.
"Yeah, figured with both of you boys gone and Peter always out of town on business...may as well go back home for good this time, so I'm selling the house and moving back into the family home in Black Creek."
"Mom...Is Peter gonna be cool with that?" I asked, my step dad is a Silver Junction pack member and of course my Mom married him (being her mate) and that's how we ended up in Silver Junction to begin with.
"He's the one who suggested it really, he's worried about your sister and I being alone now and if we're back at BlackCreek then of course we'd be surrounded by my family."
"Well knowing you'll be right there with Jameson eases my worry slightly...but that's a lot of money you're trying to give me."
"For one the house hasn't sold quite yet so there's no solid number but once again this is essentially my money to do what I want with it."
"Won't Peter have a say." I wondered. "And Jameson...he's getting married soon, that's not exactly cheap."
"Nope, my father bought us the house when we moved, didn't want you kids out on the street...said it wasn't befitting a Barbarossa." she chuckled slightly at remembering my grandfather. "As for your brother, as much as I've offered to pay for various things, her parents are adamant on paying for the whole thing."
I sighed, I knew she wasn't going to just give up. "Thanks Mom."
"Your mate deserves the best right?"
"She does...I can't believe how much I already love her Mom...it's kinda scary."
I hadn't meant to say that, to be honest I hadn't even confessed it to Raven...but I knew it was true.
She giggled, "It is scary, and crazy, and amazingly wonderful all at once...why do you think I never bothered to give That Girl a real chance, because I knew she wasn't your mate and having my own mate I knew what you were depriving yourself of by tying yourself to her."
"I'm sure Piper and I fighting constantly didn't help either." I recalled.
Looking back now I can see how toxic the relationship was, we yelled at each other, cussed each other out, there was never any trust because we cheated constantly, and broke up often.
She sighed, "Just wait until you have a teenage son...you'll see just how hardheaded they can be."
We talked for a little while longer, before we finally hung up with me promising to call more often and come and visit as soon as I can.
I opened up the laptop I had brought with me and pulled up homes for sale in the area. I was just scrolling before I actually saw a few that I could honestly see myself living in...of course I wouldn't make any solid decisions with having my finances squared away first.
