Dreams and dedication are a powerful combination

"Looks like Katie's back." Kat whispered and nodded towards the front of the Great Hall, drawing Beth's gaze in that direction.

Katie was indeed back. Harry stood up, going to interrogate her. Beth turned her head, seeing movement near her brother. She spotted Draco walking in, looking pale and tired. He glanced up, his gaze meeting hers. Her eyebrows raised, asking him what she was thinking. Draco nodded his head once, as if telling her I'm fine.

Draco turned his gaze to someone, his face paling drastically. Beth followed his gaze and saw Katie and Harry. When she glanced back at Draco, he was turned and walking away quickly. Harry walked past, his eyes narrowed. She could feel the suspicion in her brother and felt a gaze on her. She turned her head a fraction to the side and saw Kat shooing her towards them. She nodded once and stood up. She excused herself and quickly followed Harry. She saw him disappear into the boys bathroom and stayed outside, wary. She felt her brother's anger and she hesitated, her hand on the door. The sounds of a crying boy reached her ears and her heart ached for Draco.

There was a loud smash and bright lights were flashing under the door, momentarily blinding her. Beth shoved the door open, a hex flying past her head. She ducked, her eyes wide as she took in the scene before her. Harry and Draco were dueling, both of them too lost in their own world to notice the girl in the doorway. Immediately, she was torn. Who would she protect? Harry or Draco? She didn't want to choose between them, not at all. "Sectumsempra!"

Beth watched in horror as Harry's spell hit Draco in the chest and all thoughts vanished out of her head. "No!" She wailed, forgetting Harry was there and scrambling to Draco. She kneeled next to him, pulling his head into her lap. His chest was covered with blood and he was gasping for air, blinking quickly. "Draco, where does it hurt?" She whispered and he looked up at her, his hand moving to her chest.

She looked down, seeing the slashes in his shirt. The horror filled her and she lifted her head, seeking her brother. "Beth?" he croaked, looking shaken up. "I didn't know... I didn't know what the spell did..." He muttered.

"Help me!" She pleaded. "Don't just stand there! Help me." She demanded and her brother stiffly walked over, still looking frightened. "Take his arms..." She murmured. "We need to get him to the infirmary. Madame Pomfrey can help him."

The twins attempted to pull Draco to his feet but he groaned, collapsing. Beth's shirt was stained with his blood and her hands were covered with the dark red. "What did you do to him?" Beth screamed at her brother, rage exploding behind her eyes. "You bastard!"

Beth was about to punch Harry when Draco's hand squeezed hers, as if holding her back. "Don't." He wheezed, opening his eyes to look at her. "Stay by me." He added quietly and she dropped to her knees, pulling out her wand.

She started whispering under her breath, attempting to heal his wounds. But either she was doing it wrong or the spell prevented healing. She felt tears spring into her eyes and all she could think was the fact that Draco could die right now because of her brother. The door swung open and she lifted her head, catching the dark gaze of Professor Snape. His eyes took in the scene before him; Beth kneeling beside a bloody Draco and her twin standing against the opposite wall, looking stricken. "Please, can you heal him?" Beth's plead seemed to break his concentration as he looked at her. He nodded once and joined her beside Draco, crouching down.

Professor Snape was muttering something, his wand waving over the red blotches, healing Draco's wounds. Beth watched in awe as the blood retreated back into Draco, who's breathing had slowed. Her fingers gingerly brushed the hair from his face. "Help him to the hospital wing." Professor Snape said to her emotionlessly and Beth nodded quickly, wrapping Draco's arm around her shoulders.

With a boost from Draco, Beth began to help her boyfriend out of the bathroom. Harry moved to follow but Snape stood up, sweeping his clock behind him. "You, Potter, stay here." He growled and Beth caught the gaze of her twin before the door closed. A few students were milling around outside, eager to see what had happened. Seamus was among them, along with Dean. She avoided looking at them, knowing how this looked. A few girls gasped when they saw the blood on Beth and Draco.

Draco walked with her to the wing and Madame Pomfrey was immediately all over Beth, as she was the only one covered in blood. "I'm not hurt, it's his blood." Beth snapped, helping Draco sit down on a bed.

As the nurse went to work on Draco, she saw Blaise and Pansy stride into the room, both of them looking worried. She stilled, unsure of what to do. Did they know? That she and Draco were back together? She turned to look at Draco for some clue, some hint, but he was too out of it. Her heart was hammering and she froze like a deer in headlights. Pansy was the first one to spot her and Beth saw her eyes click as she puzzled things together. Her mouth moved in a silent 'o' and she glanced at Blaise, whose eyes were narrowed. He advanced slowly, his eyes never leaving hers. "Pathetic, Potter." He murmured as he stood in front of her. "Truly, has he wound you around his finger that tightly?"

Pansy elbowed him, shaking her head. "Leave her alone, she's had a rough time already." Pansy answered sharply and Beth blinked in surprise. Blaise gave her a withering look before he walked to his best friend's side. Draco was laying on the bed, looking pale but fine. "I'm sorry for what he did. For what we did. It was fucked up for us to do that to you." Pansy added apologetically and Beth grew even more confused. "Your brother was looking for you."

Beth's feet moved backwards and she felt her brain whirring. What had she been talking about? Was she apologizing for bullying Beth? She turned and walked out of the room, her arms wrapped around herself tightly. She didn't want to leave Draco's side but it wasn't like she had a choice; anybody could walk in and see her there. She'd lost her brother once, she wasn't willing to do it again. Not even for Draco.
