Pain makes people change.

A week passed and Beth had been distracted from school. Her mind kept turning back to her conversation with Draco, who had became her friend. They weren't best friends but tolerated each other. The other students noticed and rumors flew around as quickly as a wild fire. They were outrageous and stupid. Potter and Malfoy are dating. She's turned against her twin and is a death eater. Voldemort got to her. They weren't true at all but the others didn't know. Thankfully, Beth's friends didn't judge her and were more than happy to extend their friendship to the Slytherin house. Zabini seemed to accept Kat, out of the three, and he often caught her outside of class to talk to her. Beth was sure something was blooming between the two but she also knew that Collin seemed to be getting territorial. She knew he thought that Slytherin was a threat to his relationship with Kat and began to tighten his leash on her.

Kat did not like it one bit and often bickered with the boy. Then came that dreadful day where Maggie and Beth had caught their friend locked in an embrace with Zabini. Unfortunately, so had Collin. They ended things after that and it left Kat utterly heartbroken, at first. Beth tried to convince her that she didn't need a relationship to be happy but Zabini was more than happy to take Collin's place. Beth knew that he was the rebound but Kat refused to see it. So the girl left her friend alone, thinking that it'd be better for her to learn, rather than Beth stepping in every time. Harry seemed to be oblivious to the fact that Beth and Draco weren't fighting constantly. For once, Beth was glad her brother didn't pay attention to her. He seemed more distracted with something else; Beth could feel it.

"Hey, lazy butt. Get up. We're headed to Hogsmeade." Maggie's voice pulled Beth from her thoughts. She lifted her head from her pillow and squinted against the light. Her friends were gathered around her, staring down with excitement. She sat up and stretched, yawning.

She glanced over at the clock resting against her nightstand, seeing that it was an hour before lunch. "Okay." She sighed and got up, slipping on her uniform and pulling her cloak on. She grabbed her mittens and a hat, wrapping her scarf around her neck. Her friends were already bundled up, waiting. When she was done, they went down their stairs, meeting up with the golden trio. Together, they followed the rest of the students who were trickling down to Hogsmeade. Kat was talking about Blaise, her voice sounding utterly in love. "His mom sent him a gift for me. She agreed for me to come for Christmas break. My parents already agreed, they're ecstatic that the Zabini's are welcoming me." She was talking but the others looked at each other. Collin was unconsolable, pushing everyone away. Beth was wondering why her friend wasn't worried about her former love but Kat seemed to be invested in the Slytherin.

Once they left the safety of the castle, they saw a group of Slytherins loitering around. Draco was one of them. He was leaned against a post, his arms crossed as he talked to a brunette. His eyes lifted and he nodded curtly to Beth, who offered a small smile in reply. Zabini pulled Kat away from the group and Kat walked with him and his friends, who were all showering her with compliments.

Beth felt instantly jealous, watching her friend be accepted into a house that were standoffish to anyone else. But then she remembered Kat's blood status and knew it was a big part of it. Harry bumped his shoulder against hers and she turned away from watching her friend. She was met with a face of cold snow. "Hey!" She spluttered and backtracked, wiping the cold from her nose.

He was grinning mischievously. Beth curled her lips and bent, scooping up some snow. She aimed it at her twin but he ducked quickly and instead, it smacked Maggie in the arm. Beth's eyes widened, knowing that she had just ordered her death. Very slowly, Maggie turned to face Beth. She looked down at the snow on her arm and carefully brushed it off. "Oh it's on!" Maggie smirked evilly before chucking snow at Beth. The girl spun out of the way and deflected it, sending the snow to Hermione. Soon, all of them are having a snowball fight, snow flying in all directions. The passing students make sure to steer clear of them, some of them shrieking when a lone ball hit them. When the snow dust had settled, the five of them were covered in snow. The cold bit at their faces and they hurried to Hogsmeade, shivering.

Beth was laughing, her arms slung around Maggie and Harry. Ron and Hermione were walking behind them slowly, mumbling to each other. Maggie was brushing the snow off her cloak, shuddering. "Brr. It's so cold out." She mumbled.

Harry smirked and looked over at Hermione, who scowled at him. "It's cause Beth's here. Duh." Hermione remarked and Beth let out an annoyed scoff, bending to grab snow before hurling it at the girl. Harry intervened before someone got hurt but Beth couldn't help that spark of anger that scared her.
