Kristoff, Sven, Rapunzel, Eugene, Pascal, and Arianna have all just arrived in Arendelle. Recognizing Kristoff as Princess Anna's boyfriend, a lot of people try to stop the group and greet him, but he ignores every one of them and pushes through the crowds toward the palace. The others stay right at his heels.
They finally reach the palace, and run inside. Kristoff leads them all down a maze of hallways, until they finally arrive at the hallway that contains Anna's room. But as soon as they arrive at this hallway, Kristoff stops in his tracks. He notices that the entire hallway is covered in ice, and that a blizzard is actually raging inside of it. A blizzard!
Rapunzel, her husband, and her mother stare at the bizarre sight, completely puzzled. They have all heard the rumors about The Snow Queen of Arendelle, but is the scene in front of them the norm around here?
"Oh no..." Kristoff says. He doesn't have time to explain his worries to the others. He rushes down the hallway, slipping on the ice a couple of times. But he finally manages to reach Anna's room.
The room is completely filled with snow, and the blizzard continues to rage on inside of it. All he can see is white, nothing else. It reminds him all too much of the scene that took place when Anna was about to freeze to death, when he was trying to reach her through the blizzard that her terrified sister was creating. This wasn't good, not at all...
Kristoff inches around in the room, trying to make it through the blinding snow without running into anything. But he finally manages to find Elsa, kneeled down on the floor in the corner.
"Elsa, what is going on?" He asks the queen.
Elsa can't even bring herself to look up at him. "It's Anna," she replies. "She's... she's dead!"
Finally saying this aloud causes the blizzard to stop. The snowflakes freeze where they are, hanging paused in the air.
Kristoff can't believe what he has heard the Snow Queen say. He won't believe it! Not unless he sees it for himself. He rushes over to Anna's bed, where he finds the covers are completely over her entire body. Olaf tries to stop him, but Kristoff quickly pulls the covers back, and what he sees causes his knees to give out.
Anna is lying in the bed with her eyes closed, motionless... breathless.
Kristoff has never cared about anyone the way he cares about Anna. No one else has moved him, a tall, strong ice harvester, to sob. But at the sight of his true love lying there, with no more life in her, he lies his head down on her bed and cries.
It is now that Rapunzel and the others step into the room. Elsa hears their footsteps, and looks up at them. From the scene in front of them, this new group is able to discern what has just happened.
"Are... Are you the princess with the magic hair?" Elsa asks through tears.
"Um, yes," Rapunzel replies, rubbing her arm awkwardly. "I'm Rapunzel. You must be Queen Elsa. I'm... I'm so sorry about your sister."
Elsa stares at the new princess, and glances over at the broken-down Kristoff bending over Anna's bed. She looks back up at Rapunzel, and especially studies her shoulder-length blonde hair. "Do you... Do you think you can still try?" She doubts that it will work, in fact she knows that it won't work. But this princess came here all the way from her kingdom. Why should it be for nothing? They have to at least try.
"What?" Rapunzel says. She understands what Elsa means, but she wants to hear it from The Snow Queen herself.
"Can you still try to use your hair on my sister?" Elsa says, standing up to meet Rapunzel at eye level. "Can you try to bring her back?"
The conversation has grabbed Kristoff's attention, and he composes himself enough to turn and listen. Even Olaf's face brightens up a little at the possibility.
"I... I don't think I can," Rapunzel says. "She's already been dead for a while, hasn't she? I don't think I can bring her back!" The pressure is beginning to get to her, and she feels like she's about to have a panic attack or something.
"Please, just try!" Elsa presses. "It has only been a few minutes. What's the harm in just trying? We have to try everything we possibly can!"
Eugene steps forward and places a hand on Rapunzel's shoulder. "You brought me back once, remember?" He says comfortingly.
Rapunzel breathes a shaky breath, but she figures that she didn't come all this way for nothing. She walks over to Anna's bed, and does her best to lean over enough to place her hair over the other princess's body. Kristoff stands up and backs away, hopefulness spreading across his face. Olaf watches on, his twig hands clasped together.
Rapunzel once again closes her eyes, and sings the song that has become all too familiar to her:
"Flower gleam and glow, let your power shine.
Make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine.
Heal what has been hurt, change the fate's design.
Save what has been lost, bring back what once was mine.
What once was mine..."
