Chapter 15

Still Sams POV
A couple months have passed since I started dating Nikki, and it's been great we are so close and Dean and I even bought a condo really close to Nikki and Danyelles. Nikki has been rodeoing a lot lately, she said it's want she wants to do before she dies. I'm honestly shook I can't believe how good she is, she let me try riding her barrel horse, Jackpot, let's just say that went worse than a squirrel getting hit by a semi- I didn't fall off I just didn't do the best but that's ok.
   I went to some off the shows with Nikki and she placed in pretty much every show which is great because she said that's usually how she pays for the feed and stuff.
   So today we are all going back to Nikki's camp for the day to go swimming and everything so that will be fun.

    "Guys get in" Nikki shouts and everyone does as their told while Nikki puts the tail gate down for all the dogs to get in. She's bringing all the dog, including her ranch dogs the German shepherds and Danyelle's dogs. So the truck will be crowded.
   Nikki hops in the truck and she start to drive. The only thing I don't like about the camp is the ride there because it takes for ever.

   We finally get there after what feels like forever, Nikki almost hit a dear on our way here which was just great.
   "Okay I'm going to unlock the door and get changed, Sam can you get the dogs out please?" She asks and I reply with a nod. I hop out of the truck and see that the dogs are super hyper since we are at the camp and that means swimming. I put down the tailgate and the dogs jump out almost knocking me over, I chuckle and go inside to change as well.
   I walk outside and see that everyone else is in the water already, the dogs are on the raft and jumping off after each other and everything is peaceful. I go and join them in the water and we all have a great time. Nikki jumps in and her dogs will jump in after her and it's so cute. We all splash each other and eventually Nikki and I decide to go in and get some beverages.
   "I smell something weird" Nikki comments.
   "Me too, it smells like bear" I hope there's not another bear around because of how tense Nikki got last time the bear charged us.
   "It's kind of a faint smell so it's probably just from last night or something" Nikki reassures herself.
   "Yeah probably" I mutter, and with that we head inside to get drinks. After the few months I spent with Nikki I found out she doesn't actually drink alcohol which I'm not surprised because of what happened to her as a kid.
   As we're inside Nikki's jaw drops and I turn to see what she's looking at.
   "Holy shit" I cuss as I stare into the eyes of the biggest black bear I have ever seen. It scratches at the camp trying to make its way in probably to eat us.
   "Son of a bitch!" Nikki whispers as the bear tears down a big chunk of wood.
   "What should we do?" I ask worriedly.
   "Your asking me?" Nikki says with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. I don't reply I just give her a 'this is not the time' kind of look. I don't think Danyelle or Dean notice, they are to busy jumping off the raft. Great.
   "Sam the bear is going to get in here anytime now" Nikki cry's out, and just at that point the dogs start to go nuts. "CHICO, get away from that bear" Nikki growls which even makes the bear jump in terror. Danyelle and Dean finally pick up on what's going on and they look concerned but they know they can't do anything at this point because the bear has two cubs with her.
"ODIN, FRIGGA, LEAVE THE CUB ALONE" Danyelle shouts and that draws the mamas bears attention. The cub plays around with Odin and Frigga but the mama bear takes it the wrong way and charges at the poor golden retrievers who just want to make friends. With in seconds the two dogs run for their life's but they aren't fast enough to stay away from the bear. She swats Odin with her paw and he goes flying. The bear charges at Odin and takes a bite right out of his back leg.
"NOOOO" Nikki cry's and I hold her in my arms to make sure she doesn't run out there. I look at Danyelle and Dean is holding her down as well but Danyelle is fighting with all her might.
Just before the bear can take another bite out of Odin, Luka comes out of nowhere and bites the bear hard on the butt.
   "LUKA" Nikki yells and Luka releases the bear but not for long as Nikki's blue heelers and Chico rush to his side to help. The dogs gang up on the bear and not to long after the bear runs off into the bushes knowing that if it stayed it wouldn't have a chance against 6 dogs. Nikki and I wait about 3 minuets before rushing outside to Odins side.
   "Hey boys it's okay" Nikki comforts him till Danyelle gets there.
   "It's going to be okay Odin, it will be okay" Danyelle cries. She strokes his long coat trying to avoid the gouge he has on his stomach.
   "You've been a good boy but it's time for you to go somewhere better, Nikki can u get the kit out of the truck? He can't suffer anymore" Danyelle looks at Nikki with a heart broken face.
   "You sure?"
   "He doesn't doesn't deserve to suffer, it's not fair to him, he needs to rest" she states softly. Nikki stands to her feet and runs to the truck. I stay with Danyelle and Dean, Dean has his hand placed on Danyelle's shoulder for support.
   Nikki rushed back with her vet kit and starts to pull out all sorts of things. She gets a needle and fills it up a a line with some liquid stuff.
   "Are you ready" Nikki asks softly and gently. Danyelle nods without saying anything.
   Nikki puts the needle into Odin's leg and injects the stuff into him. We all sit in silent as the dog slowly falls asleep.
