John opened his bedroom door to find the bag sitting in front of it. John noticed something poking out, he knew Xavier had looked inside. John grabbed the bag and brought it inside. He unzipped the bag and frantically searched through it. He came across the frame and he stooped. John held the photo to his heart. "Thank god..." He let out a sigh of relief. He made sure none of his other belongings were missing, but soon became detracted by the picture. He touched the glass with his fingers and held back old emotions. Emotions that have been bottled up for what felt like forever.
Luke opened the door, John jumped and looked up at him. Luke studied him. "Are you alright...?" John looked stunned. "What? Oh. Yes. I'm fine." He smiled as he wiped tears from his eyes. Luke looked at him,"Well...um It's none of my business, but you don't seem fine." More tears pored from John's eyes. "You're right it isn't any of your business. I'm fine!" John cried. "Okay! Okay...um Seth told me to tell you dinner is ready." Luke awkwardly shut the door. John wiped his tears and kissed the picture frame softly.
At dinner everyone was quiet. "So...where is Xavier?" Seth spoke breaking the silence. Luke shrugged as he poked at his salmon. "He is hurt. Xavier decided to remain in his room to catch up on sleep." John said as he sipped from his glass. "Again? He had an asthma attack only last night and gets hurt again. Good god that boy..." Seth sighed. Luke looked over to John. "If you don't mind me asking...are you married?" John and Seth starred at him wide eyed. The room went silent. John looked like the question put him in severe pain.
"I-I um...I did....once." He smiled to hide his heart ache. John looked to the floor to avoid eye contact after sharing a piece of himself. Seth looked at John with sympathy. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to over step-" Luke panicked. "It's quitoe alright." John smiled softly. "It feels good to get things off my chest." Luke smiled back. Seth laughed awkwardly under his breath. "So um. Anyone else tired?" Luke took that as a sign to leave. "Yeah. I'll see you guys tomorrow." He got up and left the room. "I apologize. My nefews are just curious-"
John stopped him. "It's alright. It's just....after I lost Amber-" Seth put his hand on John's shoulder. "It's over. She loved you more then anything and you loved her until the end." John felt his heart collapse. "Our vows said until death do us part..." He twisted his wedding band. "I knew it would happen eventually...but not so soon." Tears filled John's eyes. Seth got up from his seat and hugged his friend tightly. John cried on Seth's shoulder until Seth stood. "It's time for you to move on..." John stood from his seat, wiped his tears, and nodded.
The next morning Xavier woke up to find a package outside his bedroom door. He brought it into his room and opened it carefully. Xavier looked inside the box to find nothing but a single note and a silver gem necklace. Xavier took the note and pulled out the necklace. He unfolded the paper and began to read.
Dear Xavier Adams,
You don't know who I am, but I know you. I've been watching you for a long, long, time. I know that might sound scary, but I only want what is best for you. That is why I sent this little gift.
Until next time darling,
Your Loyal AdmirerA chill shot through Xavier's entire body. "W-what..." Xavier trembled at the thought of a stranger stalking him. What is they were watching right now? He studied the necklace. There was a purple stone attached to the chain. It glisened in the morning sunlight. Xavier slid the necklace over his head. He put the note back inside the box and shoved it under his bed. Fear hit him like a truck. He hurried down stairs to the dining room to find them all ready to eat.
He took his seat. Xavier's hands were shaking violently. Luke peered in his direction. "Um Xavier...you okay?" Xavier nodded. "I'm fine." John looked over at Xavier. He noticed the necklace dangling from his neck. "What's that...? Where did you get it?" John's eyes narrowed. Xavier's eyes widened. He quickly hid the stone inside his shirt. "It's nothing..." John continued to eat his breakfast. Xavier finished his food. "May I be excused?" Seth sighed. "Of course, just be back before dinner." Xavier nodded and rushed out of the room. He pulled the odd necklace from inside his shirt and sighed.
Xavier gripped the stone tight as he left the tower. He walked down the road to the small town. His made his way to the fountain. Xavier Studied his surroundings. He walked through town until he came across a cute little house. The mailbox read 'Smoke'. Xavier let out a sigh of relief. He walked the path to the front door. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Amelia opened the door. "Oh! Xavier. I was just about to go see you." She smiled. Xavier laughed. "Well. You wanna go?" Amy twirled her curly hair and shut the front door.
They walked around town together and had coffee. A faint whisper caught Xavier's attention. It was the soothing but villainess voice he had heard from two days ago. Except this time it was speaking to him, calling to him. "Xavier..." It whispered to him. It became louder and louder. Xavier starred off into the woods that surround the tower and the town. "Xavier.... yoo hoo Xavier!" Amy waved her hand in front of his face. Xavier stumbled of the street into the grass. "X-Xavier you're scaring me." Amy stuttered. Xavier continued clumsily following the voice, as if hypnotized by the sound.
