And just as I thought, eventually, everything did come to an end.
The moment, the sun started to rise, you started to close your eyes again. And just when it was fully up, you opened them again but this time, when I called out to you, you couldn't hear me.
Your lips tightened into a line and your body turned to the side I was laid upon, you put her hand forward on the mattress, as if reaching out for mine, and I placed it onto yours. Even if it went through them, you still kept it there.
"... Are you holding my hand right now...?" I hear you ask, unsure.
"Yes..." I whisper.
You deeply inhales and exhale, your hands clenched into a fist before hesitating to pull away and sit up on the bed. I stared at your back, the morning light came through the blinds and reflecting on your hair. Slightly, you look over your shoulder before finally standing up.
I watch as you move around the room and collecting clothes to wear for work, I stood up myself and followed you.
You prepared everything, I couldn't but smile when seeing you so focused on doing them, it made me relieved to see that you did take your time to do them.
Even if you couldn't hear, whenever I'd shout out things for you to remember to do, you'd stop. For a moment, it'd make me think you could hear me, but then you'd say to yourself how you forgot about that one thing and making me laugh as you hurried to do it or get it.
Before you left, I followed you to the door, like I'd always do even when I was physically here. Telling you to be careful on your way, look out for cars when crossing the road to the bus station, don't mind whatever people would tell you how you're doing at work because you're doing great and to not forget to eat your meals.
I saw you smiling slightly as you put on your shoes and when you stand up, you turn around and stare up slightly, thankfully, your eyes met mine and I stopped blabbering.
"I bet I know what you're saying." You giggled and my smile widened. "Be careful on your way, look out for the cars that cross the road on your way to the bus station, don't mind what people tell you on how you're doing at work— you're doing great."
I let out a chuckle and narrow my eyes in adoration for you. "You know me too well..." I whisper.
I saw you breath in slightly and close your eyes softly, I leaned in. As much as I didn't feel your lips on mine like I had felt hours ago, I could still feel what remained of it. And after a minute or two, I pulled away and your eyes opened slowly.
You smiled widely. "Did you kiss me just now?"
"I did, but I'll be telling that tonight."
You turned around to the door and as you were to open it, I said. "Have a nice day at work, I love you!"
You stopped on your way out and looked around before turning slightly. "I'm going to think you just said have a nice day at work and that you love me... I love you too." You said and just before you closed the door, I saw a mixture of happiness and sadness on your face before it completely closed.
I stood there for a while more, staring at the door and somewhat hoping you'd open it and run into my arms, telling me the past days have been nothing but a joke you planned so that you'd scare the hell of me.
But when the feeling of warmth was gone, everything felt empty once again. I looked down and kicked the air with a sigh.
I don't know how much time I have left, but I'll make use of the current time I have in my hands.
