The Traitor. Those words... they made your blood run cold. What had this man done to earn that sort of name? He must have been terrible.

They always talk about the traitor, and the boxes, and the constant threat of assassination, but you didn't understand any of it.

You often asked questions, but to your frustration, no one ever answered you. Did they think that you were too young? Even when you had been through so much?

Your name is (Y/N) O'Brien, younger sister of Liam O'Brien. You were new to the Assassin brotherhood, and you were brought in by your brother, who was seven years your elder.  After your initial training, your first mission, given to you by Achilles, was to stealthily track down the Templar that the Assassins called The Traitor.

"Liam?" You asked your brother, "Why do we call him the traitor? What did he do to deserve such a title?" Your older brother shook his head, grimacing slightly.

"It's not important, (Y/N). All you need to know is that he must be killed before he can hurt anyone else." Liam replied, dodging your question. In a huff, you went back inside the Homestead, and began to pack your bags for Albany. Upon your arrival, you instantly began your search for the Traitor.

You scouted out the area, jumping from roof to roof, and watching down below intently. The crowds of people were so large. How could Achilles ever expect you to find anyone in this damned city?

You searched for what seemed like forever, asking locals about him and scanning the ground from the rooftops. When it got dark was when you finally found him, walking alone in an alley. Readying your blade, you prepared to air assassinate him from the rooftops. When you jumped from the roof, just as you were about to reach him, he grabbed you and dodged your aerial attack. You rolled out of his arms, and stood on your feet to face him.

"Hello, traitor." You hissed. He smirked a bit.

"The name's Shay, actually. Why do you look so much like Liam O'Brien, Assassin?" He asked. You frowned. You hated having your appearance compared with your brother.

"Maybe it's because I'm his little sister, Shay. My name is (Y/N) O'Brien. I shouldn't be telling you that, but I'm going to have to kill you anyway, so it won't matter in the grand scheme of things." You said, and you drew your sword. Shay let out a breathy laugh, which was a bit condescending for your taste.

"What sorta lies have they been filling your head with about me, lass?" He asked, and he drew a flintlock from his holster.

"You go against all that the creed stands for! You betrayed the brotherhood, Shay!" You yelled, to which he frowned deeply.

"No, the Assassins betrayed me, (Y/N) O'Brien! Me, you, and everything else that breathes!" He yelled, "They're lyin' to ya! And you're dumb enough to believe it all!" His words cut you deeper than any knife ever could.

"You're lying, you Templar dog!" You lashed out at him, which made his eyes flare up and his brows furrow.

"Oh, really? So what happened in Haiti? That was an accident? So many died, all because of those damned boxes! Do you think I wanted that to happen? Is that really what you believe?" He spoke with such passion... He couldn't possibly be lying. You sheathed your sword, and took a deep breath.

"I don't even know what to believe in anymore!" You snapped back, tears suddenly dripping down your cheeks, "Everything I know... My whole life... I owe it all to Liam, Achilles, and Hope!" You began to sob, to which Shay's features softened. He walked towards you slowly, and tucked his flintlock back into its holster.

"Love, I understand." He said, "Join me. We can fix this." You stayed silent, not knowing what to do. Next thing you knew, you had taken Shay's hand, and you were gently shaking it. He then led you by your hand to a large ship, docked nearby.

"Who is this child, Shay?" Asked Haytham, motioning towards you.

"I am no child!" You replied, "I am nearly twenty three years old!" Haytham smiled.

"Feisty." He said, "I don't take kindly to disrespectful children, but all that aside, welcome to the Morrigan. You may make a fine Templar, if you keep your wits about you. Good day." Haytham then turned on his heel and walked down into a large hatch, probably his quarters.

"You'll warm up to old Haytham Kenway soon enough, (Y/N)." Said Shay with a chuckle, "Welcome to the Morrigan, and to the Templars." Said Shay, and he gave you a quick peck on the cheek, leaving you to blush furiously, As Shay retired to his quarters, you couldn't help but feel guilty about betraying Liam. But Shay gave you what you were looking for... Answers. And that was the only important thing.

You were to lead a good life as a Templar. Many lives were saved thanks to you and your wise choices. You even ended up marrying Shay, and gave birth to boy girl twins named Hope and Liam. They inherited their eyes from their father, and their hair was (H/C), just like yours.

Defecting... Going Rogue, even if it meant you never got to see your brother... It was the right choice.

That was my fifth one shot! Hope you enjoyed, even though to me it's a bit short. I don't think Shay gets as much love as the other assassins, but he's really just a big old sweetie in my opinion. My only problem with this one shot was that I felt like I made (Y/N) defect too easily.... Anyhow, I had a really good poppyseed bagel for breakfast this morning. I got it from a new store that just popped up, and had low expectations, but I put some cream cheese on it, took a bite, and HOT DIGGITY DAMN IT WAS BOMB! I'm really craving another bagel right now, so I'll definitely stop by that store again tomorrow. Peace out! ~❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Natasha
