Kisses over Ice Lollies by grennfields
"Come on. Push."
"I am pushing!"
"Well, push harder."- Ivor grunted. His face was red and his shirt was glued to his skin with sweat. The car barely seemed to budge, no matter how hard they tried.
Or maybe it was the fact that they were both lacking in the much needed muscles department.
The summer heat beat down on them with no consideration for their tired bodies. Instead of a nice tan, Ivor was gifted a gracious red face by the Sun. 'So much for the beach trip'- he cursed in his mind.
El looked equally exhausted but that didn't stop him from continually kicking the car and spurting cuss words like a deranged man.
Ivor wiped the sweat off his forehead and evaluated the damage. The car wheels were stuck fast in the muddy ditch and one of the tires were out flat.
"Oh man. We are so screwed."- El said, genuine fear creeping into his voice. They were screwed. Atleast he was, El could still get away. He wasn't the one living with uncle Van afterall.
"You can go home, El. I will call a tow truck."- Ivor said, wiping his dirty hands on his shorts.
Though the prospect of being left alone did not seem too great, Ivor was ready to be the gentleman here.
It was his fault anyway."As much as I want to kick you to the moon and back for getting us into this, I am still gonna stay. I don't bail out on people."
Ivor snorted. "Right."
He had known El since middle school. They became bestfriends after being bullied together and now were giving a shot to this whole dating thing.
It was the same except with kisses and touches and racing hearts.
"You always bail out on people. Remember Snotty Hannah in eighth grade? Damn. You were harsh."-Ivor snickered.
El did feel guilty about the Hannah episode but Ivor was too evil to let it go. El ignored the jibe and started walking towards the trees on the side of the road.
"I am gonna call my sister."- he said dismissively.
"What ? No!"- Ivor protested, his eyes turning into saucers. He was tired, dirty and irritated.
There was no way he was going to meet his date's sister looking like a hobo. The fact that he had already met her many times before didn't count.
El sighed, aware of what Ivor was thinking. He took him by the shoulders and looked him straight in the eyes.
"Look, Ivor. I am gonna have to break this to you in a simpler way."
He took another deep breath.
"Your uncle's gonna be sore if you call him about your jeep. You're gonna have to explain him how we got the car into the ditch."Ivor looked away from El's brown eyes, his ears a little bit hot from the embarassment of what he tried to do earlier in the car.
El slightly shook him to get his attention. "My sister , on the other hand won't ask and will get the car to the repairs. Your uncle wouldn't even have to know. So, which one do you want?"
Now that the idea was given a more solid base, Ivor would be stupid to reject the sister offer.
What would he lose?
His image? His dignity maybe if El's sister asked what really happened in the car. He would only be embarassed. But if his uncle came to know then, he would lose his skin. (Literally and figuratively speaking.)
"Your sister."- he said defeatedly. El smirked, fairly satisfied with the answer. He would get more chances to tease Ivor now that his sister was coming.
