I wake to the sound of drums and yelling.

"JASON THOMAS! STOP THAT INFERNAL RAQUET RIGHT NOW!!" my mom shouts from the second floor.

I chuckle slightly to myself and rub my eyes.

"BUT MOM! I'M EXPRESSING MYSELF!" Jay yells back.

"EXPRESS YOURSELF SOME OTHER TIME! IT'S 6:00!" Grant yells.

The drumming stops and a rock song with a heavy bass beat takes its place. I can hear my parents grumbling but no more shouting follows.

I decide it's time to get up. As I do, however, I realise that last nights escapade has not completely healed itself.

"Shi-it!" I moan to myself.

I did try to warn you, my fox says snidely, but no-o, you didn't want to listen.

Shut up, I tell it, I did listen, I just elected to ignore your warning.

My fox grumbles slightly but lets it pass.

I discover my leg will take my weight, but kills to move quickly.

The rock song finishes and a Fall Out Boy song takes its place. I nod my head to the beat of Where Did the Party Go and quietly sing along.

I go to my wardrobe and slowly find something to wear. As I do, a stark reality hits me: today is my first day of school. This is going to suck.

I come downstairs around 6:30 after getting changed into some black jeans, a Fall Out Boy tee, my black military jacket and my combat boots. I have also packed most of the neccessary items for school into my bat-backpack.

What can I say? I like to be organised.

My mom greets me with a smile and a "Goodmorning!"

I say the same back.

"What would you like for breakfast? We have toast, cereal, I could probably make some bacon and eggs..." she trails off.

"Just cereal please," I say and then add, "any type,"

"Alrightly, we only have Cornflakes, though."

I nod a couple of times and walk over to the dining table.

A few moments later my mother walks in holding two bowls of cereal in her hands and a plate of toast in the crook of one arm. I will never understand how adults can do that. She puts one of the bowls down in front of me, the plate of toast in the spot adjacent, and the other bowl next to me. I notice her sit down next to me as Jay drags himself into the room looking deshivelled.

"Goodmorning!" mom greets him cheerily. He forces a smile. "All your self expression worn you out, huh?"

"No, I just realised what day it is: Hellday," he says bitterly.

"Oh! It's not that bad! It's only Monday," mom says disaprovingly.

"Mondays suck," he says shortly and sits down.
