Ruby sat back against the rough log seat,  surrounded by a few members of the pack. She was still pissed off at Toby.

What a dickhead, she thought to her wolf.

He's a hormonal man, what were you expecting? Her wolf, Melony, thought back.

Ruby laughed mentally, glad that someone understood. Toby wasn't as bad as he was made out to be, on the contrary, he was actually really sweet when he was with her.

"You okay, Rubs?" Ruby's friend Lola asked tentatively, "You look upset,"

"I'm fine, don't worry," she lied smoothly, faking a smile. Lola was a great friend, somewhat nieve at times, but her heart was in the right place.

Lola was a medium height, not tall, but not short either. She had mousy brown hair with a few streaks of blonde running through, it fell to the middle of her back. She had on a loose fitting blue tank top and jean shorts.

 "You're lying," she insisted.

Why does she have to be so good at sensing emotions? Ruby thought at her wolf.

Her wolf didn't reply for a moment, Something feels... Off.

Ruby frowned, How so?

It feels like something's about to happen.

Ruby paused for a moment, considering her wolf's warning. She stood, garnering confused looks from the members, and moved to find Raphael.

She found the Alpha inside the pack house talking to several warriors. They looked stern.

"Ruby? What has happened?" the Alpha questioned, concern in his voice. He knew something was up.

"Melony thinks something's about to happen," she told the tall man.

"My son has told me the same thing," Raphael informed her and the warriors. A sour taste filled her mouth as she took in the information, of course Toby felt the same thing. "And so has my wolf, that is why I am going to be sending out some scouts to find out what's going on. For the mean time I would stay indoors and tell others to do the same,"

Ruby nodded, anxiety gnawing at her insides, it was never a good sign when the Alpha was nervous.

Doing as she was told, she cautiously made her way outside to tell Lola and the others what the Alpha had instructed. To her immense surprise and relief, nothing bad had happened in her absence.

Perhaps it was stupid of her to worry so much, but because of the incident three years ago she had had to take on the responsibilities of a Luna far sooner than she was ready to. Ruby shivered at the thought of what had happened, at the fact that in her mind she could still vividly see the bloodstained body of Tracie, Raphael's mate and the former Luna of the Hunter's Moon pack.

The warriors that the Alpha had been conversing with exited the log house; all of them looking determined, but worried at the same time, the last time they had to do this was three years ago and that didn't end well.

"What's up? You look like you've seen a ghost!" Lola remarked.

"Alpha says we have to come inside, something's up," the future Luna informed the pack members around her.

Nodding, Lola and the others followed inside.

Ruby spent a while longer in the house, first sitting on the couch, then staring out the window and just as the sun was setting she began to pace around with worry.

They should be back by now, Ruby thought.

Calm down, they'll be fine, her wolf told her.

Ruby wasn't convinced. She continued to pace around the spacious living room, looking like a caged animal.

The anxiety in her gut continued to grow, each passing minute filling her blood with adrenaline and making her muscles tense with worry.

Not ten minutes later one of the warriors came bursting in, his face was pale and bloodstained, his clothes were torn and he had several deep gashes in his side.

The pack turned to chaos, everyone running about, off to the side a pup screamed at the sight.

"Quiet!" Ruby shouted, using her Luna voice, immediately the roomed stilled and silence took over, "Okay, Lola go get the doctor! Lucas go find the Alpha and tell him what's happened! The rest of you help me help him to the couch,"

People did as they were told and Ruby was surprised at how she was handling the situation... If only she had acted like this before...

The pack helped the injured warrior onto the couch, moving in unison like a single organism.

The pack doctor came rushing in, followed soon after by the Alpha.

"What happened? Where are the others?" the Alpha demanded, paying little attention to the fact that the poor wolf was nearly bleeding to death.

"T-They're dead, they're all dead... W-we were attacked... B-by-" the wolf broke off, breathing heavily  and wincing as the doctor attempted to heal his wounds,"

"By what?" the Alpha demanded again, tension in his gaze.

"By Vampires," the warrior told him.

Ruby's gut sank.

This was worse than she thought.
