Author's Note:

Sup guys... wow, did I really say that? Oh well, just roll with it.

So, how are you guys liking it so far? This chapter took a little while to write due to a combo of writers' block and not knowing what the fuck I was going to do with this.

Anyhoosers, enjoy!

"Devi, come one sleepy-head! It's almost 7:00!" my mother chimes as she attempts to get me to remove myself from my well-earned cocoon of warm. I am lying on my front, leaving my back unprotected, big mistake. My mother, who is just trying to be nice, nudges me and last night's injuries protest in a chorus of agony.

I let out a groan.

"Come on! You can't sleep in or you'll be late. Devlyn, I know you're awake, I see your eyes twitching," she says forcefully.

"Okay, okay, I'm up... Ow," I mutter, blinking awake. The harsh sunlight offends my eyes; I am unable to hold back another groan as I slowly rise, the cuts in my back protesting strongly.

"Are you alright? You don't look very good, did you sleep alright? Maybe you should stay home,"

"No, no... I'm alright, just tired,"

Mom shook her head, smiling, as she walked out my door, calling out for me to "get dressed and come downstairs soon!"

And then I was alone in my room. I sigh, better to get this over with.

I get up off my bed, wincing as my back throbs, and make my way to my wardrobe. I strip, and quickly change, feeling every movement pull on the barely scabbed-over lacerations. I decide that it would be easier to wear a button-up shirt and thus avoid having to lift up my arms.

I end up in a black button-up blouse and a pair of dark jeans, my combat boots and military jacket (the last of which was the most painful to put on).

I come downstairs and am greeted by an annoyingly cheerful Jay. My mother asks me what I want for breakfast and I answer cereal and coffee.

"How do you like your coffee?" mom asks.

"I like my coffee the way I like myself: dark, bitter and too hot for anyone,"

Jay bursts out in peals of breathless laughter, telling me over and over again that my joke was "the best ever!"

I highly doubt it, I think to myself.

Breakfast after that is a quiet affair, with little sound outside of Jay's occasional chuckles and the sounds of eating.

Jay and I are just getting on the bus when Sky's enthusiasic voice beckons for me to join her at the back of the bus.

I look to Jay and he waves me off insisting that he has friends to sit with.

I sit with Sky is at the back left of the bus, there are several other pack members filling the seats around us. I notice Tobias sitting next to the girl named Ruby with the dark hair and eyes. He has his arm around her shoulders and is smiling and laughing quietly.

"Good morning," I smile.

"Hey," my mate greets, "how are you?"

"Dead tired, you?"

"Same, is your back alright?" she asks, concern colouring her voice.

I nod and lean my head back against the seat. I had taken my prescribed drugs before I left home and the painkillers were only just starting to kick in.
