Testing Fate

Part 24

*Justin’s POV*

Together Selena and I lied on her roof of the house looking up at the night sky.  I looked down at the bracelet that she had given me and I can’t help but want to get married despite the bracelet. Marriage may not mean anything to her but it means something to me and I feel that if she truly cared then she would get over her stubbornness and get married because that would mean pleasing me. Now, I’m not trying to be selfish but really I don’t ask for much so the least she could do is get married. I mean if it doesn’t mean anything to her then it really shouldn’t be that big of a deal, yet it is.

“Sel?” I asked breaking the silence that had formed a blanket around us for the last hour or so.

“Hmm?” she asked, turning her lead a little bit to get a better look at me.

“I just wanted to say thank you for my bracelet. It was really thoughtful of you,” I said trying my best to butter her up before bringing up the marriage thing again.

She smiled before turning her attention back to the starry sky, “You’re welcome.”

“So, um, I was thinking that if you really don’t want to get married, we could just like elope. It doesn’t have to be this big fiasco. Just you and me,” I said trying to be as easy as possible because honestly, I was treading on thin ice that could break any minute.

I heard Selena let out a sigh before she began to speak. “Justin I gave you the Cartier bracelets. I told you that these were forever on us. We threw the screwdriver. What more do you want from me? Why does it matter that much to you?”

“Because Selena, it just does, okay? My dream was to get married and have kids and a family and as much as I love these bracelets and as much as I think they were an amazing idea, it doesn’t replace marriage.”

“If I tell you I’ll think about it can we finally stop talking about it,” she asked with a bit of an attitude I might say.

“Yes, just really think about it. Think about how much it would mean to me,” I said before letting the silence engulf us again.

*Selena’s POV*

The next day Justin went back to the studio to check on some new track her had recorded the day before.

I picked up the pillows from the sofas that were lying on the ground and put the throw blanket over the edge of the sofa right as the doorbell rang. Despite how weird I thought that was, seeing I hadn’t invited anyone over and Justin would let himself in with his key, I went over to the door and looking out the peep hole. I opened my door slowly from shock due to who was at my door.

“Hi,” Leigh said looking down at her hand that was currently intertwined with James’.

“Come in,” I said stepping to the side, still not understanding why they would be at my house of all places. I thought if they would go to anyone’s house it would be Justin’s seeing he was always so nice to them and well, I wasn’t.

We settled in the living room as an awkward silence fell around us.

“Selena,” James started. “We just wanted to apologies for everything that went down with Brayden. We loved him very much and honestly, we were the best parents we could be to him. We did everything in our power to try and make him better.”

“I know,” I sighed finally admitting my wrongs. “When I yelled at you guys back at the hospital, I was really yelling at myself for not being there for Brayden the way I should have been. So I’m sorry for that. If there is anything I could do to make it up to y’all please let me know.”

“Well actually there is something,” Leigh said looking at her husband with a small smile graced upon her lips.

“Anything,” I breathed.

“Would you be willing to carry another baby for us?” she asked with her word dripping with hope and even a little desperation.

“I would be honored. There’s only one slight problem,” I said folding my hands in my lap.

“And what would that be?” James asked.

“Justin. He’s very set on not having another child right now,” I sighed as I had been trying to get my own child for quite some time now.

“Do you think you can convince him?” Leigh asked.

“I can try,” I said with a smile. “Don’t worry. I’ll get you your baby.” One way or another, I’ll get it.
