The group had moved out onto the porch, forming a circle with the deck chairs so they could talk to each other while the kitchen aired out. Sara and Avery picked their seats with a view that would allow them to look overlooking the bay behind the house, which in turn made the choice for how everyone else was sitting. Brett sat next to Avery, while Aaron sat next to Sara to discuss old times they had together before they picked up "the stragglers" and Taylor, who Aaron had asked to switch seats with, was between Amy and Aaron.

Taylor listened to the conversations, which varied widely between the group, but you. She could hear the constant, "Do you remember when we..." from Aaron and Sara. On one occasion Sara asked if he remembered night swimming in middle school where he had gotten tangled in seaweed and panicked thinking something had grabbed him and he screamed like a little girl. She ignored Amy's push to continue a conversation on Sara's choice to backpack alone.

"You're such a great friend," Avery chimed to a story while Brett tried to win her over.

"Taylor, aren't you worried about her?" Amy questioned again.

"Shut up for Christ sake." Taylor sighed heavily. "It's her life let her live it."

Taylor turned back to listen to the other conversations. She noticed that Aaron was talking to Sara in a low whisper. Sara's face turning red with embarrassment while Aaron laughed at his own story. No wonder Amy thought they could have something. They looked as if they had moved past their history to remain friends.

"Let's play truth or dare!" Amy suggested, effectively interrupting everyone's conversations and gaining their attentions. She flicked her dark hair over her shoulders and leaned forward in her chair. "I haven't played in such a long time."

Aaron nodded, turning away from Sara for a moment. "Yeah, because it's something little kids play in their free time. We just want to hang out while we wait for Sara's cooking to stop smoking."

Sara elbowed Aaron playfully as Brett nodded in agreement, but then agreed to play after Avery squealed about how fun it would be. Sara looked as displeased with the idea as Aaron did, but hegave in when Amy poked her bottom lip out at him and gave him the puppy dog eyes.

Even then, he rolled his eyes and begrudgingly said, "Fine I'll play." With that Sara, was forced to play as well.

Amy clapped her hands in excitement and screeched, "Okay, who wants to start?"

"I will," Taylor said excitedly, but before she could ask the question, Sara interrupted.

"Wait, we need rules. How about, you can't back out of the truth or the dare, and if you don't want to answer then you have to jump into the bay naked. Also, no one can dare someone to jump into the bay. There should be an understanding that you don't target anyone." Sara's eyes met Amy, making it clear it was meant for her to follow. "If you don't want to know something then don't ask, and if you push someones with a targeted question they don't have to answer and can turn it back on you."

"But it's the middle of the day!" Avery exclaimed, ignoring the last few rules. Her mind was still stuck on having to jump into the bay naked in broad daylight.

"Then don't back out Aves," Sara replied in a cold tone, her eyes still locked on Amy until Amy nodded in understanding.

Avery pouted but didn't say anything about not playing, so the game began.

Taylor started the game off with a dare for Brett, which consisted of him calling Amy's grandma on his phone and flirting with her in a southern accent while on speaker phone. It was hard for the group not to laugh at the responses Amy's grandmother gave, but finally after the call ended, it was Brett's turn. He chose Sara and dared her to let Aaron draw a penis on her cheek in Amy's red lipstick. Sara took her dare like a man, and before she knew it, she was daring someone of her own, and also sporting a lipstick tattoo penis that was well endowed and needed a shave.
