Ashton: “(Y/N), please set the table, they’ll be here soon.” Your Father said, frantically walking around the dining table. “I already have Dad, calm down.” You said laughing, plucking the dead heads off of the flowers placed neatly in the middle of the table. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and he’s bringing his family. This has to go so well.” Your Dad said, smoothing out his shirt for what seemed to be the hundredth time. You couldn’t help but sigh, this was the last thing you wanted to do on a Friday night. You had plans with your friends, but they had to be cancelled so your family could appear to be perfect, well mannered, and so gracious for your Dad to get the job. You didn’t know what difference it would make you being there, because you knew that you wouldn’t be permitted to talk a lot during the dinner conversation. The only hope was that his boss was bringing his son as well, and maybe with a little luck he wouldn’t be too hard on the eyes so he could distract you. About an hour later, you were completely right. Hard on the eyes was something non existent with this lad, he was absolutely gorgeous. He put the statue David to shame. And distraction, well, you certainly had a hard time keeping focused on the conversation in case some adult asked the usual questions, how old are you? What school do you go to? What are your plans for the future? Broccoli or Salad? You answered with ease and grace when Dad’s boss asked, and you returned to staring at your plate of food, occasionally glancing up to meet Ashton’s hazel eyes. All the while, your parents drilled Ashton with almost identical questions in which he answered with a stunning flare, casually making sassy remarks to which his mother scolded him. You stifled your laugh by coughing into your napkin; Ashton shooting you a coy smile. You blushed, trying your best to nod along to the boring conversation your parents were engaged in. As dinner passed, you were asked to clear the table so the adults could discuss future business plans and what your Father was so eager about. That left you and Ashton to clear the table and begin to sift through the vast amount of leftovers your Mother had made. “So, boring night huh?” Ashton asked as he scraped a plate into the garbage. “I didn’t follow a word they said,” You admitted making him snort. “Want to get out of here tonight?” Ashton asked, wiping his hand on a cloth. You stopped looking at him, your heart pounding. “Sorry?” You squeaked, hoping that he missed your voice raising a few octaves. “Well I don’t know how else to describe get out of here, but if you have plans thats cool.” He shrugged, resuming his task. “No I don’t have plans,” You stammered out, before taking a deep breath. “I just don’t know how to ask my folks to get out of here, they’re busy.” You said, leaning around the corner to see your parents talking animately to his boss. “We finish this, and then casually walk out and tell them we’ll be back later.” He said, still scraping plates. You stared at him, admiring his features, his appeal and his sly way with words. “Sounds good,” You said, trying to be cool. After tackling the kitchen together and finding out that Ashton was indeed quite funny, you grabbed your shoes from the back door, following Ashton to the front door which was past the living room. “We’re going out, we’ll be home later.” Ashton called out, as you sent your Mum a ‘please let me out’ look. She smiled a tiny bit at you and nodded her head. You grabbed your wallet off of the bench by the door and left, laughing as Ashton grinned at you, leading you to his parents car as he dangled the keys in front of you. “Glad I came to this dinner,” He said, walking a bit towards you. “I’m glad that you did too,” You said, smiling shyly at him. “Lets see what we can get ourselves into than.” He said winking at you, going towards the drivers side of the car and climbing in.
Calum: “Mum, I really don’t want to go.” You whined. “Can’t I just stay home today?” You pleaded. “No, you’ll not only get in trouble from your school but they’ll be kids your age there. Make an effort (Y/N)” Your Mum said slipping on her shoes. You huffed out in annoyance, grabbing your bag off of the floor and slinging it over your shoulder. It was one of those bring your kid to work days for the older kids and you really did not want to go. You knew that your Mum’s job was quite boring, and that you had little to no interest in it, and yet she was still forcing you to go. About half an hour later you arrived at her work to see many other students your age sitting with their parents having the same expression of sheer annoyance and boredom on their features. You settled down at your Mum’s work station, as she got prepped for the day. “I’ll go show you my boss (Y/N)” Your Mum said motioning for you to come and follow her. You reluctantly stood up, following your Mum and listening to her ridicule of standing up straighter, and making yourself look a bit happier. You sighed, rolling your eyes as you passed rooms full of people, until you reached an important looking office. Your Mum knocked and walked in, as you saw a man in a tailored suit sitting talking to what would be his son. You were taken aback by how good looking his son was, and you could feel yourself blushing. “(Y/N), this is my boss and his son Calum.” Your Mum introduced and you waved meekly. “Its nice to meet you (Y/N),” Her boss said. “Calum is around your age I’m sure, why don’t you two explore the work area together. It would probably be more fun than hanging out with us old people.” He said smiling at you. “Hey there,” Your Mum teased and he laughed. “You don’t look a day over twenty.” He said to her. Calum pushed himself off of the table he was sitting on and walking over to you. “I’ll be back for lunch Mum,” You said, smiling at her. She grinned at you as you left with Calum, your heart thundering in your chest. “So, do you actually want to be here?” Calum asked, turning to you. “To be honest no.” You said, laughing. “Me neither. I was forced. But I’m glad I found someone my age, and is more exciting than that kid down the hall that is oh so fascinated by his parents work.” He drawled, making you giggle. “So, what do you say after this we leave work together and go get coffee or something?” Calum asked outright. Your heart jumped to your throat and you were taken aback. “I know it’s bold, but hey. Might as well,” He said shrugging. “My Dad always said if it doesn’t bring a jolt of fear to you, than you’re playing to safe. And he is a boss, so I’m sure he makes risky moves all day… I’m babbling aren’t I?” Calum asked, a red hue on his cheeks. You smiled, playfully nudging his shoulder. “I’d love to.” You said, as his grin got wider. You were actually happy that your Mum dragged you out today to her work because you most definitely wouldn’t be talking to such a lovely lad like Calum if you didn’t.
