XII - Aftermath

WALA PA RING LEADS ANG MGA authorities sa nangyari sa The District strip mall incident. Ayon sa mga witness, nagumpisa ang gulo sa area nang biglang paputukan ng mga hindi nakikilalang kalalakihan ang popular cafe na Cool Brews bago it pinasabog matapos makitang dumating si Valor sa scene..."

Mae was still shaken after what happened at the cafe a couple of days ago. She was close to losing her mind when she can't find Alex with the rest of the staff that escaped the cafe before it blew up. After the explosion that took out not only the cafe but also two other establishments and the dusts settled in, she frantically searched for Alex and Eric who was stupid enough to go back inside after she told him that Alex hasn't come out yet.

"Inumin mo 'to," Kael pushed a steaming mug of what smelled like lemon balm tea in her face.

Mae took the mug in both hands, wrapping them around the hot ceramic container before inhaling the aroma of the herbal tea.

"Thanks, Kuya," she smiled and took a couple of sips. "Any word on what really happened and who attacked the cafe?"

Kael had been assigned on the case of the bombing since it was - in a way - connected to the initial attack on CB a few weeks back. He hasn't shared much information with Mae about it, but she knew he had been in contact with Casey for follow-ups and whatnot.

"All signs are leading to a gas explosion," answered Kael and took a seat across from his sister.

"A gas explosion leveled out three businesses?" Mae sounded incredulous. She was no genius, but a gas explosion at a place like Cool Brews couldn't possibly cause that much damage to its surrounding area. "At most the place only has two industrial-sized ovens to bake the fresh pastries daily and a whole bunch of small machines for making the various drinks the cafe offered."

Kael let out a long, exasperated sigh. He has been working non-stop on this case, and after this latest incident, the pressure to get to the bottom of who attacked the cafe and what their motives was became tenfold.

"Yun nga ang pinagtataka namin eh," he said after a while. "Anong klaseng pampasabog ang ginamit para makapagdeliver nang ganun kalaking damage."

"Any casualties other than the leveled businesses?" So far the news hasn't reported any fatalities from the incident. It seems like everyone fled the area as soon as the first round of gunfire shattered the windows of Cool Brews.

"Minor injuries, pero wala namang namatay."

"Thank God for that," Mae sent a silent prayer of thanks. "What about those who attacked the cafe? Meron ba kayong nahuli ni isa sa kanila?"

"Wala pa, and I don't know if we'll ever find any clue to trace back to those attackers."

"Bakit naman?" she frowned.

"Walang bullet casings na nakita sa crime scene."
