SERYOSO KAYO, HA, KUYA?" Mae demanded, her eyes glaring a hole right through her brother's head. She was called in for a so-called emergency meeting by her brother on her rare Sunday off, only to find herself greeted not only by her brother but also by her employer and her employer's cousin.
"As a heart attack," that was Eric who said that, earning himself an equal death glare when Mae zeroed in on him with her gaze.
"Not funny," she deadpanned, quickly shutting up the usually smart-alecky cousin of her employer whom she was currently hating on big time. She turned her gaze from Eric to the man she knew was responsible for her brother's harebrained idea. "Akala ko ba nagkaintindihan na tayo, ha? I told you I'm fine. Walang masamang nangyari sa akin," she insisted.
"I know, but as your employer, it falls under my responsibility to ensure my subordinates' safety," Alex explained.
"And by that you mean ratting me out on my brother after I specifically asked you not to tell him?"
Alex was saved from explaining himself when Kael butted in on their conversation.
"I already know what happened," he announced.
"Huh? How?" Mae turned and gave her brother a dumfounded stare.
"Who do you think Valor handed those perps to?" Kael answered smugly.
Mae's jaw dropped on the ground with a resounding thud! "Ikaw yung contact ni Valor na pulis?"
Kael cocked an eyebrow at what his sister just said. "Nagkausap kayo ni Valor?"
"I wouldn't really call it a conversation, but he did save my life and ensured I got back sa set safely. Pero teka, ikaw nga yung pulis na sabi niyang kakilala niya?" Mae was still reeling after processing what she just found out.
"Does it matter whether I'm his police contact or not?" Kael demanded.
"Yeah, it matters," Mae insisted. "It matters kasi that jerk - kahit na uber guwapo pa sha and dreamy too - convinced me not to get you involved after I offered to contact you after he apprehended those jerks who dared to kidnap me!" She was miffed for being duped by her idol.
"Can you blame the guy?" Alex butted in. "Hindi ba pwedeng concerned lang siya sayo?"
"Tinatanong ba kita?" Mae snapped at him.
"Mae, boss mo yan," scolded her brother.
"Right now he's not my boss. Day off ko so I am not on the clock," she argued, her eyes never breaking contact with Alex,
"Kahit na," Kael argued. "Show some respect. Alex is just concerned about your safety," he added.
"Concerned?" Mae echoed, turning her attention back to her brother. "If he was concerned then he would've asked me when it happened if I was okay or if something happened since I told Eric," she sent a scathing glare to Eric who has remained quiet since she chastised him, "after I returned back sa set. I'm pretty sure Eric mentioned what I told him happened to Alex, pero anong ginawa niya? Wala! Tapos ngayon pupunta siya dito sa bahay offering me bodyguard service courtesy of him because of what happened after the damn fact!"
"Yun na nga kasi, Mae," Alex decided to take over this argument from Kael. "I'm trying to make it up to you for my delayed concern. Eric told me what happened and believe me, worried ako sayo, but you gotta understand, hectic ang schedule ko that day. But I made sure Eric looked after you," he explained.
"Duh! Alam ko ang schedule mo since PA mo ako no," she snapped. She of all people should know exactly how busy Alex's work schedule was since that was the first and last thing she looks at when she was on the clock. "Pero teka nga, bakit ba kailangang bigyan ako ng bodyguard? Sino ba ako para kailangang bantayang maiigi?"
"Someone who poses as a huge threat sa isang diehard fan ni Alex," that explanation came from Kael.
"Ano?" Mae whipped her head towards her brother. "Anong threat? Saan? Paano?" She looked from her brother to Alex to Eric then back at her brother. "Paki-explain lang, please."
"Your brother told me what the kidnappers told him," it was Alex who took over explaining. "According to Kael one of the guys confessed that they were hired by someone to - and I quote - 'eliminate Mae Rodriguez' by any means possible."
"Whoa," Mae's initial chagrin died a sudden death after hearing how serious the situation was concerning her attempted kidnapping. "S-sino naman? At bakit? Bakit ako naging threat dito sa taong ito?"
"That's what we're trying to find out," Kael answered. "Under investigation ang case na attempted kidnapping sayo, and I'm personally looking into this case."
"Wow," she said under her breath, taking a deep breath and slowly expelling it. "What made you come to the conclusion na I need a bodyguard samantalang mas si Alex nga ang dapat may kailangan ng bodyguard 'coz he's in the spotlight a lot," she pointed out.
"True," Alex agreed, "but I can take care of myself," he reassured her.
Mae doubted that, but she was too winded from the news to argue with him.
"Eh, sino naman ang bodyguard ko?" She dreaded asking that question, knowing somewhere in the back of her head that she wouldn't like the answer. But she needed to know and the whole point of Alex and Eric's unexpected visit at her place was to tell her that they hired a bodyguard for her.
"Us," it was Eric who answered her.
