"I hate this place so much." I close my eyes and throw my head back to hit the wall with ice cream wallpaper.
"We won't be here for much longer, B, I promise." Stef, my mom pats my leg gently.
Sadly, that's what she says every time and we always stay here for hours. This hospital has become a second home to me and I don't like it. I just want to go home.
"Well Brandon," Dr. Flicker walks into the room, after what seems like hours, and I open my eyes to glare at him, "Your x-rays show that your hand should be back to normal in no time." He shows us the newest set of x-rays.
"And it only took 4 months." I mumble under my breath.
"Well, thank you so much, Doctor. We'll see you next week." My mom says as I stand up and we head for the door.
"Actually, Brandon could I have a word with you?" The doctor says and I groan slightly.
I sit back down and my mom tells me to behave as she leaves the room.
"Listen, Brandon, I know what you're going through-"
"You had all the bones in your hand shattered when you were 16?"
"No, I mean, with this girl, um, Callie? Right?"
"How do you know about Callie?"
"You're mom talked to me about her and about you maybe talking to someone about her."
"What do you mean? Like.. like a therapist? He nodded his head, "No.. no way!" I was breathing heavily and I didn't know why.
"Just.. if you talk to somebody, it'll get easier having to live with-"
"I'm not in love with her, okay? She's my sister."
"Technically, but-"
I stood up, "No, just stop!" I walked to the door and opened it, "I'll see you next week." And with that I slammed the door.
I was dreading the car ride ever since I saw the look on my mom's face when I slammed the door. She had to pay for the appointment so I sat in the waiting room watching these two little girls make a puzzle. One of them looked like Callie, which only made me feel worse about this entire situation.
The second we get in the car, my mom explodes, telling me how rude I was and that he's only worried about me and so is she. I just can't wait to get home.
Once we get home, I race up to my room hoping not to run into Callie on my way there. I walked past hers and Mariana's room and the door was open, so I looked in and she's not there. I sigh a little but I know it's better that she's not here right now.
I open my bedroom door to see Callie sleeping my bed. I try to wake her up but there's no use. She's out cold.
I run down the stairs, "Is something wrong with Callie?"
Lena looks up from helping Jude with his homework, "Uh, yeah, she's a little under the weather, actually." Jude looks up at her, worriedly, "But she's fine. So don't worry." She walks over to me so Jude can't hear, "Did something happen? Is she okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, she's fine, she must've fell asleep in my bed on accident."
"I'm sorry I forgot to tell you. I told her to lay in your bed because Mariana and Jesus kept fighting and she needed a quiet room, I hope you don't mind."
"Oh, no. It's fine."
"You're the best. Oh and let her sleep, she's had a long day."
I mumbled okay before I went back up the stairs. I walked into my room and decided to finish my homework. I looked over at Callie. She was beautiful. I could just imagine how adorable she sounds when she's sick. I walked over to my piano and noticed the sheet music for Callie's song. I went to grab it off of a pile of books and all of the books fell to the ground.
"Oh my god!" I turned around to see Callie sitting up in my bed.
"I'm sorry, I just.."
"It's okay, Brandon, it just.. it startled me, is all." There was a moment a silence that just wasn't like it used to be, before anything happened between us. "I'll, um, I should go to my room."
"Um, no. I mean, I can leave, it's fine." I pointed towards the door.
"No, it's your room. I'll, uh, when did this become so hard?" she laughed a little.
"What?"
"Talking to you." She ran her fingers through her beautiful brown hair, "Ya know, we used be.. I could talk to you about anything.. and now it's like-"
"Horrible."
She did that cute little sympathetic half smile she does sometimes, "But it's-"
"Yeah, yeah, better this way." I sat down at my keyboard, facing away from her.
