Jugheads POV:

I walked towards the door as I was about to knock I hesitated. She will be crushed. I couldn't tell her why I was doing what I was doing because it would put her in even more danger. I built up my courage and knocked on the door. Its for her safety, I recited that in my head that was the only thing keeping me going.

"Oh, hello Jughead," She said not looking pleased that I was at her doorstep. "Well come in Betty is in her room. You two better leave the door open." She said moving from the door frame to let me in. I looked around the house everything was neat and tidy. I made my way to the staircase. My hands were shaking. I was so nervous. "Betts?" I asked knocking on the door. I waited a few seconds when she opened the door. She didn't have her hair in her normal ponytail. Her wavy blonde hair was flowing freely around her shoulders. "Hey Jug! Come in." She said while gesturing for me to enter her room. "Hey Betts we need to talk," I said trying to keep my voice steady. She gave me a worried expression and sat at the end of her bed. "What's up Jug?" I opened my mouth but closed it again thinking about how to say this without hurting her. "I love you Betty and I always will but......." I paused thinking carefully about my next words. "I think it would be best if we took some time apart." The expression on her face broke his heart. "w...what?" She stared at him in disbelief. Tears were streaming down her face. I stayed silent.

its for her safety

its for her safety

its for her safety

This was the thought that kept him going. "D...Did I do something?" She asked pain filled her voice. He hated himself for making her feel this way. "No! I just think we should take sometime apart." I said trying to comfort her. I made it worse. "If that's what you want." She replied tears still streaming down he face. I stood up and mad my way to the door. I was at the door when I heard her quiet sobs. I considered turning around but decided to continue to leave the house. Alice didn't pay him any attention as he left the house.

I felt horrible. Betty was going through so much pain. I wanted to hold her and tell her it was ok but being with me was to dangerous for her. She didn't know what Penny was capable of. I did it for her safety. She would understand soon. I was till terrified for her. I remembered when Archie left her she picked up the habit of digging her nails into her palms. When they were dating I had managed to get her to stop doing it. What if she started doing it again because of him. He shook his head to clear those bad thoughts. I must have looked insane to anyone who was watching. I didn't care. The only thing I could think about was Betty. She was safe now, right?
