Your Song (Shawn Mendes)

Chapter 20

It was officially Maria's birthday. She had turned 19 along with the release of her and Shawn's song and music video. She had loved how both turned out and couldn't wait to see how the fans reacted. Shawn had generously agreed to let her spend the day with her moms as it had become a family tradition with them. He was happy to do it as long as he got to take her for the evening. They had just finished their day together and Shawn was set to pick her up for their iHeartRadio video.

Shawn's eyes when he saw Maria walk out of the salon with her moms. Her hair had been cut to just below her breasts and the silver had been taken out. Her hair was now jet black that shined blue in the February sunlight. "Wow. New hair?" He joked.

She giggled. "Rachel's birthday present to me." She smiled at the one mother. 

"And Nicole's?" He raised an eyebrow.

She pulled down the shoulder of the black fleece long-sleeve she was wearing. They had been blessed by little snowfall this February so she wasn't wearing heavy clothing. Shawn saw the edges of saranwrap wrapping around her bicep, a tell-tale sign of a new tattoo. "I'll show you it later." She smirked, putting the shirt back in place.

He chuckled and took her hand, leading her to the car.

Shawn and Maria smiled into the camera. "What's up guys? It's Shawn Mendes."

"And Maria Peters." Maria introduced.

"And we're going to be watching a bunch of reaction videos from when our surprise duet of Like To Be You and the video dropped at midnight." Shawn smiled at Maria. "Which just happens to be this lovely girl's birthday."

She blushed as he kissed her on the cheek. "The funny part is that there are one or two clips in the music video of us in the studio where we're reacting to hearing the song for the first time." Shawn snorted a laugh. "So essentially we're reacting to the fans reacting to us reacting to the song. Is that weird?"

He shook his head. "Let's just watch the first one."

She saw the name and clapped. "Ooh! I love Dante!"

"We've met him before." Shawn added. "He's awesome. You're the best, man." Maria smiled as he started the video. 

Dante gasped. "Wait a minute. Wait a mother-loving minute!" He turned to the camera in shock. "Do you see this? That's his girl!" He squealed slightly. Maria laughed and leaned on Shawn's shoulder. The chorus came on and showed them in the studio. Dante covered his mouth with his hand. "Do you hear them? I'm losing it! Fucking losing it right now!"

Maria laughed. "That is so amazing." Shawn said with a smile. Maria nodded before clicking on the next video. "The next one is from shawnwwreports." 

The girl brushed some hair out of her face. "After In My Blood, I was really excited to see what he had next and I'm just wondering why he chose to release this song today especially after not telling anyone that he was doing it with his girlfriend." Shawn paused the video. "The reason Shawn gave me," Maria started, "is that the song was, in fact, written about our relationship so to make it a bit more special for us, he wanted to release it on my birthday." She leaned over and pecked him on the lips. "Which is just about the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me."

He smiled before turning back to the laptop. "Next we have Twizley Terrific. What's up Twizley?" 

Maria laughed a bit. "There's a green screen in the background."

Twizley looked to be tearing up a bit. "Are all of you hearing this girl? No wonder Shawn fell for her!" Maria blushed and Shawn smirked at her. "He gets it." Maria rolled her eyes. Twizley started swaying to the beat before gasping. "They said 'I won't love you any less.' Ooh, they are too perfect!" Shawn and Maria let out small laughs. "How have I not heard about Twizley before?" Shawn asked. Maria laughed again.

It switched to a video by shawnilluminate. She looked to have tears in her eyes. "I mean, he said he was doing a duet but he didn't say who he was doing it with." "Yep, surprised you guys." Maria smirked. "And now to see him doing it with his girlfriend? I mean, look at them." She gestured to the video where a clip of Maria and Shawn walking around Tokyo was shown. "They are both just so able to say exactly what they mean to each other and... I just have to know: where did this come from?"

Maria and Shawn let out laughs. "Did she know we would see this?" Shawn asked. 

"She was so cute! I love her!" Maria gushed. Shawn rolled his eyes. "I've never done this. Like I watch these reaction videos all the time but they're never for something I did." Shawn kissed her temple and clicked on the next video by stanofshawn98.

She looked to be close to tears as well. She gasped and covered her mouth when the clip was shown of Maria and Shawn in the studio listening to the song. "Oh my God. This has to be the cutest thing in the history of the world." Maria blushed and put her head down on the table. "I can't handle your fans! They're so sweet, they're giving me cavities!" 

Shawn laughed and it switched to the next video from klbarber03. She gasped as the chorus came on in the most fangirl look ever. When Shawn and Maria started singing together, she clapped and basically collapsed onto her bed. Maria lifted her head to watch and she and Shawn laughed. "Klbarber is really freaking out." Shawn commented. She started flailing her arms around while silently squealing.

"Same girl, same." Maria responded. Shawn laughed. 

It switched to a video by terixhalsey. She had just finished the video and was blinking away tears. "I'm just... deceased. Like this is my ghost you're watching." Shawn chuckled. "'Deceased', huh?" Maria snorted a laugh. "I'm just like... bye. I can't even talk right now. Those two are the literal definition of goals. Like there is a picture of them in the dictionary next to the word." Maria smiled with a blush. "Aw. Thank you, sweetie." "That song was just pure gold. I love it, I love them, I am not ready for this next album."

Maria laughed. "You better get ready because it is so amazing!" She said and Shawn laughed. They watched a few more videos before they were done. "I think we watched all the videos."

"Yeah, we did so thank you guys." Shawn continued with a smile to the camera. "You are amazing! We love you all!"

"And thank you for being so supportive of our relationship and all the craziness it comes with." Maria added. 

Shawn wrapped an arm around her waist and brought her into his side. "Also, please don't ever stop making reaction videos. I live for that stuff." 

Maria nodded in agreement. "This was probably the best way I could've spent my birthday." She smiled brightly at the camera. "And please keep listening to In My Blood and Like To Be You on iHeart Radio. Bye!" They waved and the camera cut.
