Teddy and Harry were both left speechless. "He showed her his scars," Teddy said quietly. "He really put a lot of trust in your mom Harry."
"I'm rather surprised by that myself," Harry replied.
She wrapped her arms around me and I hugged her to me. After a moment or two she leaned back and kissed me on the cheek. She then unlocked the door and raised the shade. Then she sat across from me and we talked about everything and nothing.
After a while Lily said she was going to look for her friend. I told her to go ahead. After she left the boy from Madame Malkins, Sirius Black looked into my compartment.
"Hey, I've been looking for you. I just wanted to say thank you for that back in Diagon Alley. No one has ever stood up for me before. My name is Sirius."
"Remus," I said as I shook his hand. "Don't worry about it. It just wasn't right, what he did."
"It happens to me a lot. You see, I don't agree with my parents views on things."
"Like what?"
"Well, according to my parents, if you are not a pureblood you are a second-class wizard. If you are a muggle born then you are worse than trash. In fact, the only people considered to be lower to them are 'blood-traitors.' Pureblood wizards who don't agree with their views."
"Blood-traitor? That's what he called Mr. Potter."
"Potter? Did someone in here say Potter?"
I looked up to see a bespeckled boy with messy black hair.
"Yes, I did."
"Well, I am James Potter."
"Our dad's are friends. My name is Remus Lupin and this is..."
"Sirius."
I looked at Sirius as if to say what's up. He just shook his head slightly. I took the hint and made a note to ask him about it later. James came on in the compartment and sat down next to Sirius. The lunch trolley came by soon after. We all loaded up on stuff.
"Hungry there Remus," James asked.
"Well, yes but that's not why I bought so much."
"Do tell," Sirius encouraged me.
"Well, I met someone earlier and she is sharing the compartment with me. She left to look for a friend she couldn't find on the platform. Anyway, she is muggle-born so she doesn't know about any of this stuff."
Right on cue, Lily opened the door.
"Guys, this is Lily. Lily, this is Sirius and James." James was staring at her like he had been hit by a bludger.
Teddy stopped reading to control his laughter. "Wow Harry, your dad was crazy about your mom from the moment he saw her?"
"Sounds like it," Harry laughed. "I have a feeling your dad was the same way about your mom." Teddy smiled at that thought.
"Hi," was all he managed to say.
"Hi, Lily. Remus was just saying he wanted you to try some of these 'wizard' treats."
We heard a rather annoyed grunt. We looked at Lily again and realized there was someone behind her. They both walked in and sat down. Lily tried several different snacks and was amazed by them all.
"My favorite is the chocolate frog," I told the room in general. "Milk chocolate is my favorite. The muggles have a company in the United States that makes the best chocolate."
"Really? Which one," Lily asked. Everyone else was staring at me.
"Hersheys."
"What do you know about the U.S.?"
I looked over at Lily's friend. He was glaring at me like I had offended him in some way
"Lot's actually. My grandpaw is a muggle from the U.S. I've been there a bunch of times. In fact I have what they call dual-citizenship. My mom is a U.S. citizen because of her dad. By the way, I didn't introduce myself. I'm Remus Lupin and this is James and Sirius."
He just stared at me. I looked at James, Sirius and Lily in turn. Both guys seemed as lost as I was. Lily seemed upset by his behavior. She finally said, "This is Severus."
"Snape and the Marauders were into from the start huh," Ron commented.
"Seems that way," Harry replied.
We shrugged the incident off and started talking about Hogwarts. I told James what his father had said to me in Diagon Alley. He jumped up and said, "Gryffindor, where dwell the brave and true." I'm not sure exactly how it happened. Something was said about other houses. Severus stated he wanted to be in Slytherin, James mad a comment against it and Sirius stated that would probably be where he ended up because his family had always been in Slytherin. James said something about thinking Sirius was alright. One thing led to another and Lily and Severus stormed out.
I took note of the direction they had gone. On the pretense of changing into my uniform I excused myself to go to the bathroom. On my way I looked for Lily and Severus but had no luck. I changed into my uniform and made my way back to the compartment. As I reached to open the door Lily appeared down the car.
"Remus, can I talk to you?"
"Sure Lily."
"Look, I'm your friend and I meant what I said. I'm not going anywhere. The problem is Sev has been my friend since we were like 9. He's the one that told me I am a witch. I can't stay in the compartment with them. We are still friends and maybe we will end up in the same house."
"Lily, I just met those guys. I don't want to fight with you but your friend wasn't exactly innocent in that earlier. I'll see you when we get off the train, ok?"
She hugged me briefly, kissed me on the cheek and made her way back to where she had come from.
